If anyone is interested...I'm in the process of ringing around again.

We used to be limited to Suncorp and Allianz for windsurfing gear coverage.

Good news, NRMA and AAMI now specifically include sailboards in their PDS as being covered, and have confirmed this with managers.

try RACQ, had to itemise everything. Is covered at home and in car for theft and damage, but not while in use.

The main thing to check is that you are covered for public liability when using the gear, even if the gear itself is not covered for damage when in use. That is where the million dollar risk is.

YouI has allowed me to list all my boards (sail, surf and SUP) and should a break one, have one stolen or damaged regardless of where it is - even on the water - I am covered.

I was surprised when this was offered, So I asked multiple agents multiple times to confirm validity.

orsm

when i was with allianz they would cover it away from home and in use, except if used in waves or on the ocean.

Again, using in waves and ocean was one of those things that the customer assistant casually said was covered, but upon being asked to double check, turned out to be not covered

I'm insured with Shannons for cars, home and contents etc and they cover my windsurfing gear. Boards are listed individually and they list the rest of the gear as unspecified up to $5000 so long as the claim for any single item is no more than $1000. So in other words you could claim a boom and 4 sails and say that each was worth $999

wonder if you could claim...

Board = $999
Foot Straps = $500
Pads = $500
Fin = $500

get you closer to the cost

hi troy

nrma - $250 per year for $30k home contents & accidental damage cover including windsurfing gear (no motor burnout). No individual item can exceed $10,000. $300 excess. Only covers most items while in the home.

nrma - $750 per year for the above plus $12,000 worth of coverage for portables (cameras, laptops etc) away from home. this includes a multi policy discount - again, no one claimed portable item can exceed $10,000. There is a $300 excess across the board.

not with nrma (confirmed twice) - you just need evidence of receipts etc.

You can take out of the house whatever portable items you like (needs to be classified as a portable - windsurfers are not) and claim up to your nominated limit, providing no one item exceeds 10k.

So far nrma are the only ones i've found who have this blanket portable cover.

Basic cover is so cheap but as soon as you cover anything important it gets expensive.

The boards are insured individually and listed with serial number. They are insured for $2500 each. The rest of the gear is insured as unspecified. Sails, masts etc. Covered at home obviously but also in the car anywhere in Oz.
