Hey Lee1972, how flat is the water at Golden Beach? A few of us are looking to take a day trip there (All beginners to intermediate).
Well, an hour either side of high tide is best as the current can be quite strong. When the tide is running I find it best to sail out to the right hand sand bank ( directly facing out from golden beach main car park ) and sail between the opposite sand bank. Be carefull at low tide as its easy to hit them ( we've all done it ) for practicing light wind sailing got to the right hand bank as there is a natural large shallow area where it isn't effected by the current as much. Wind, anything coming from the south - 5 knots atleast of the graph anything from the north is usually right on the money.
Oh sorry, in answer to your question From the beach the first 100mtrs can be choppy after that it's butter smooth (depending on tide and wind direction) flatter than beachmere.
