well lads time to pi55 yourself, I picked up my kite today so im sure Im going to struggle and flounder around wondering why the hell I sold all my windsurfing kit!

Hey Justin I will for sure, if the wind gets up to 30 kn I will be looking to borrow some kit! especially at Shearwater

Keep the sailboard for the upper wind ranges. My biggest sail is a 5, if I need anything bigger go the kite.

I have to agree the kites in 15 knot onshore slop are ... better. Call them 'easier' all you want but riding formula gear in surf is 'harder'. It's not really a point. Plus I've watched guys kite with the bar behind them, so riding the wave frontside in onshore, and ripping. I know, clew first, but is it the same?

That said of the last half dozen sails I've met three guys ditching the kites to get back into windsurfing (honestly), some with 10 years kiting experience. So go figure.

I'm probably closer to 90% kite and 10% sailboard due to wind conditions. There just isn't enough constant wind up here (Brissy), if there was I would sail more. Had a great session today on my big kite in 8-10 knots, good jumps and stuffing around. Better to be on the water than watching.

You can get away with a 12 mtr kite from about 12 to 20 knots and then it is time for the sailboard that said I still own 6 kites, they tend to breed.

Still love the sailboard ( well there is 5 of them) but probably wouldn't continue with it except that there is nothing I can currently do on a kite that competes with doing forwards, they still do it for me. Just getting into the unhooked thing so something may give me the same rush that forwards do.

One word of warning, kites bite, much harder than a sailboard, you can't bail. Watch the conditions, that gets newbees the most around here. If others are on 9's and 10's and ripping, don't put up the 12.
