Hello.
I am about to buy a Mach 9 6.5m. Can I get away with using my RDM 430 full carbon mast despite the recommendation of using SDM ? will a few cam spacers get it performing well enough and save me alot of money on an SDM mast just for that sail ?
Or will I just be shooting myself in the foot by being cheap and be losing too much of the sails performance ?
I am 80kg, to be used on Isonic 67, gusty winds, flattish water, weekend worrior just chasing the other lads.
Cheers.

I used the Severne blue rdm 430 on the mach 8 6.5m, also on 7.0m of earlier models, rigged ok, some tweaks on outhaul setting, it worked fine for me, same board as you have, I much preferred the handling of rdm over sdm .

mostly subject to personal preference i’d say. while it’s most likely technically possible to rigg it on RDM by adding spacers (likely ~ 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 mm on batten 4-7 respectively), i personally wouldn‘t dare to judge the result without knowing how it’s supposed to perform when rigged on the recommended SDM mast.
that being said, compared to the M8 the M9 delivers noticeable added low end punch and drive in the mid and large sizes. especially the 6.5 does power up quite a bit earlier than its predecessor, which i personally like a lot. it does feel crisp, responsive and powerful when rigged on SDM, whereas the smaller sizes rigging on RDM rather focus release and top end control and have a noticeably softer feel.
