Hi all,

I've just moved to Adelaide from the east coast and have taken up windsurfing again after about 20 years. I guess I'll be hitting the metro locations listed in Onboard Surf's guide to Adelaide beaches (great list for newcomers by the way).

In the past I've had a few holidays at Marion Bay on the Yorke Penninsula, although I've never windsurfed down there.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any advice or tips on locations etc. for spots around Marion Bay on the lower Yorke Penninsula.

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig. Me too. I started after a 2 decade gap. It was either this or lion taming. Welcome aboard :). I'm a beginner myself - started last October. Might see you down the beach sometime. I would be keen to have a look for some nice spots down Yorkes, but not hard core stuff... yet. What area of Adelaide do you live ?

Surfed it heaps - only sailed Marion bay and it was weedy gusty and no so goood.

Gleesons during summer seabreezes / se'rs iis somewhere that crew said thay have sailed and possibly berry bay in a Nthly - edithburg - maybe Troubridge pt in a nw'r - thats justvme dreamiin though - Have heard of people sailing Pondie and having a bit of a hard time in the shorey (once you've experienced a Pondie shorie at 4 + foot you can understand why.

Dust bowl -looks good but a friggin nightmare gettin your gear there

Good luck

Never sailed Corny Point but I have heard it is good unsure about what wind direction is best and I would think Point Turton wouldn't be bad. Hardwicke Bay isn't bad but a Windsurfer was taken by a shark there in 1999. but that is always a risk when in the ocean.

Sailed twice at Corny Pt - it picks up lots of wind in NW'ly - flat water sailing.
Sailed once at Berry Bay - pre-Xmas 1-2' waves in SE'ly - watch the strong N'ly current - not a place for the wind to die out on you....
Sailed once at Bum Breakers, Gleasons Landing, SW'ly - side/side on -small waves a bit like Mid Coast - hope to sail there again - watch the tide/hence the name!
Hardwicke and Sultana Pt are talked about flat water locations but never sailed them - have a trip staying at Hardwicke Bay in a weeks time - so hope to sail it then.
I've heard rumours of people wave sailing Pondie and Daly Head. Daly would be awesome to watch - I've seen some cracker waves come in there - but its a lonely old spot and windsurfing buddies over there are hard to come by...

Thanks for the tips.

Got out on Sunday and Monday in a gusty, squally SW'er at Willyama beach. Not great conditions, but still had fun on the new X-cite 120L and even got it up and going a few times.

Should be a great spot in the relentless prevailing summer winds down there.
