Hi Guys

Anyone got any tips to keep sand out of the extension end of your boom?
Got my not so old enigma boom stuck yesterday and had to really stomp on the end with my foot to free it.
I reckon it happened when got my rig caught in a receeding wave but boy was it stuck.
Have since washed and all good but don't like the idea of having to go through that again.
Cheers Nev.

That's ok,
I figure from the lack of response everyone's out on their 2.0 sails and sub 50 litre boards.

My X9 Neil Pryde is full of sand, stuck in the one position.

Funny enough it still is stuck perfectly for my 5.3, 5.6 and 6.2, so not too concerned :/

Foam in the booms like new Joe as it's only about 4 months old.
I figure it was just me not watching what I was doing and getting caught right in the shore break.
I tape my mast together when in surf so might try taping the boom around the adjustment pins but can't see that making much diff.
Thanks chaps too crazy and cold for me tonight so I wimped out and went home and lit the fire.

Hi Nev, it's Ja here, not Joe (Joe's username is CAPTSLOW).

This is an idea you can try (assuming the foam is conforming with the inside of the extension - ie: tight gap between inside diameter of extension and foam). I use this trick with aluminium booms (which I don't own/use anymore). Dismantle boom and remove all sand. Dry boom and spray inside of boom and extension with silicone spray. I used this stuff to stop of ali booms welding up, but I noticed when doing this, water didn't enter in the boom (and when I think about it, sand for that matter as well). Anyway, just an idea since nobody else has offered. The only thing I hate about doing this is sometimes some of that silicone ends up on the grip and make the boom hard to hold. You don't need to apply a lot of silicone though.

Has Frank been out ? ... hang on, don't answer !. He can't have because everybody has been sailing

Sorry Ja,
I'm a shocker with names.
Frank was out at Uturns on Sunday arvo and surprise surprise the wind didn't drop off.
Not a bad idea as I've used silicone spray on my ally booms as well.
Might give it a go.
Cheers

Ja is right silicone works and is a good lube but in my opinion but still attracts grit. Mclube is better. Its a dry lube that has better endurance and performance. I spray my boom tail and clips with it . Last up to six months . Really good for mast joints . I also spray the tips of my mast with it . Helps sliding any tight sail on and off. You can purchase it at any marine outlet. Good stuff. I consider it an honour to be mistaken for good looking Ja. He is such a chick magnet.

Maybe you could tap into that 8 months experience & suggest somewhere else for all us creeps to sail?

If you're not getting going after 8 months, then it's never going to happen IMO. What are you using ?, and where are you attempting to sail ?

Now back to Joe's lube
