Hard to believe I know but seriously contemplating a move to Tas....was wondering where is good to windsurf, what conditions you get where?? Can you sail all year round or is it more seasonal dependent upon winds??...Lakes, beaches or rivers??....flat and fast, bump and jump, waves?? Any info. much appreciated, throw it at me...

Hey Chilla,
You'll never be short of places to sail regardless of where you choose to live, North or South.

I'm sure you'll get some better posts with more worthwhile info for you, but you can checkout a 'spot guide' I'm trying to get going, not only for guys just like yourself, but for the local tassie sailers as well as visitors....if I can get some of these guys to cough up some of their local knowledge that is! I'm pointing fingers at them, and they know who they are, but I won't name names, I'm still a newbie here! :-)

Anyway, check out http://g.co/maps/ph775 for a clickable link. As I said above, you'll notice a lacking in spots from the NW and South - but hopefully this will grow in time.

Cheers,
Johnny

Hey,

Thanks for that JohnnyHuett, I guess the sailors down south are really tight lipped about they're destinations a secret , when I get down there I'll be tracking you all down, (you know who you are ). I'm currently considering mostly
South and around Hobart, but planning a few weeks holiday touring over there soon so will be able to see a few sites then.

Cheers,

Chilla

Hey Chilla,

We have some great spots down south, if you're a windsurfing nut, love the beach, love the waves around Lauderdale is the only place to live and you'll have great neighbours oh and 20 minutes from the city as well what more could you want

Chilla, there is heaps of info on the spots we sail throughout the posts within this forum. Asking for a broad sweep of all spots, for all types of sailings is a tricky one for anyone to answer.

Do you need to find work if you move to TAS? That's probably a more relevant question. We've got fantastic sailing spots all over the state, so unless you want to base yourself in one spot, based on sailing alone, it might be more worthwhile chosing a place that provides life-style balance and driving that little bit extra for sailing.

If I had to choose one spot though, it would be Lauderdale in SE TAS.

What about Wynyard?
Half way between Port Sorell and Stanley, closer to Henty than Hobart. (speed covered)
Not far from Marrawah, and plenty of wave beaches on the North coast. (waves covered)
Having spent some time there recently for work it's a lovely country town on the coast, you walk down the street and the locals always say g'day, there's great fishing, the local butcher has great local produce, and you can sail there as well. Great access to the NW Tarkine (wilderness area).
I'd love to live there if my life circumstances (kids etc) were diferent.
