I'm puzzled about the near abandonment of this platform in favour of Whatsapp, particularly in The South.
You will recall I made some emphatic comments about The Windsurfing Whatsapp Group in the past. The language I used may have been a little illconcceived I must admit. My post offended many delicate feelings for which I remain truly ashamed, remorseful and repentant.
Some of you may recall also the original intent of establishing the Windsurfing Whatsapp group was to provide a live weather reporting system I.e. When the first rider arrived at a sailing spot they'd post the conditions so the group would know exactly what the nature of wind and waves in order to make an informed decision where to sail. were. Updates would continue frequently. It worked beautifully because weather was the sole topic.
Sadly the the posts on the Whatsapp group are polluted with a high volume of off topic comments, inane comments, gutter humour and sadly thinly disgusted personal attacks among other immature ephemera.
So Whataasapp to be done about it?
May I humbly suggest the current Whatsapp group continue for those of you who like to engage in the type of correspondence outlined above, or even return to this platform where the whole Seabreeze Community is able to read, enjoy and appreciate the high level of discourse that is now hidden from view for an exclusive few.
However should participants wish to continue in a virtual cocoon with the current highly intellectual discourse, do so so they may develop higher intellects and maybe become highly respected oracles and sages. Perhaps even worshiped.
If so perhaps a new Whatsapp group be established "Tasmania Live Windsurf Conditions" with the title reflecting the content of the content required.
I trust my language is of an acceptable tone and has not dented any delicate feelings or egos. My intent is solely positive.
Peace be Whatsapp you all.

SNAP!

We, that is I, am hoping for a sail up here today. WSW forecast and around 23 knots it looks like, and with a low tide early afternoon. Hoping it stays more W, but I can let people know if they like...

Winter westsuit weather by the way.

Whats app group live and well down south here.
Sorry, sometimes things get off topic but i think 95% of posts relate to whats going on , on that particular day.

Last two days have been discussing this weekend with many live reports that just would not happen on SB.

Sorry we have been there done that.

Moving forward....
turn off notifications and just turn em back on when you want to sail easy....

Younger generation-- i.e most kitesurfers solely use whats app down south without any SB posts.

SB is a great platform used in conjunction with other message groups.

if you want to join the whatsapp group and get on the spot wind reports ( and occasionally someone not being too serious!)
text me on 0409854754

I agree Relic.

Not everybody has smartphones, or are not into apps, or don't want distractions of "non critical" information.

I still rely on seabreeze from a computer for most info- and a lot of newer sailors probably do as well.

Even older school, I still ring people up and see what's going on.

When I used to live in NSW we'd ring the Post Office in Gerroa to see if it was on- they'd look out the window and give us the report before we made the trek. How old school is that!

We are bloody lucky to have a platform like seabreeze to share information.

sb and wgattsap are two different platforms with totally different purposes .
Sb can't give you instant notifications. As a messenger group does. And there is the big difference that that makes windsurf messsnger groups brilliant.

II think the 58 active members of WhatsApp down south tell the story.

I am sure kazz was happy she was in the group this morning when she saved herself a trip to Marion thanks to other users posting.

Missing the point made. Don't post irrelevant nonsense on Whatsapp. Keep it to wind reporting. Save the BS for Seabreeze .
Or are you deliberately trying to deflect the intent of my first post..or was the english was above your level of comprehension.

Something i've always enjoyed about windsurfing is that windsurfers don't take themselves to seriously. Let's not change that great aspect of the sport. Relic, I always look forward to seeing your photos posted. I certainly appreciate the up date on conditions through the what's app group and I enjoy a chuckle every now and again. A good balance I think.

Yeah, more bullsh1t on seabreeze please. I remember the good old days where it was BS galore, red thumbs and something to laugh at every day. The only person who posts anything vaguely entertaining these days in Appleman - I miss Danny de Vito and videos about "dirty girls" like this.

I used to find it great on Seabreeze to find out where gps's were going to sail (the gunfights!) So motivating to go sail with the other gunfighters. But of late I've been feeling a tad isolated and I don't like sailing alone (for safety & company) and have been relying on WhatsApp to find where everyone is sailing, but sadly there's aren't many gps's on WhatsApp.
Everyone is entitled to sail whatever discipline they like and as a bunch of windsurfer's we know what it's like to get our fix on the water one way or another so please bring back Seabreeze and respect each others choice's.

Simple solutions, Don't like it turn it off.

Play banter - while not strictly in line with the intent playful banter helps other not feel to serious about it.
We want people to feel free to express themselves with an vindictiveness or need to walk on eggshells, incase they offend someone.

I for one intend to respond to playful banter, and we all know that the changes that ahppen at any location mean a weather report has the reliable life span of around 15 min in tasmania.

I would also like to see more people posting on Seabreeze the site gets lots of eyeballs but sometimes seems to lack the variety of contributors. I put this down to the fact that we all lead busy lives and writing a post or taking photos takes time. I have always been impressed at how regularly GPS team challenge gets updated with the days activity but unfortunately wavesailing doesn't lend itself to measurement in the same way. I have only recently started to carry a mobile phone but will try to download WhatsApp and post there as well If only to show that there are other places to sail than Bell Buoy (yes I am talking about East, us Northern sailors are not very adventurous ........well Luka is but not the rest of us).

I can see where Relic is coming from. There is a lot of irrelevant material on whattsapp. I think it's very difficult to police a forum such as that when it's generally light hearted banter. However, so long as there's nothing offensive, I think Whattsapp works pretty well.
I can also see that people saying that if you don't like it, turn it off - is not really a solution. What Relic seems to be after is detailed comments about what the wind is doing at different locations, not so much about the funny trash talk. So turning Whattsapp off, means he doesn't get the info he wants.
I'm not really in favour of having another Whattsapp channel just dedicated to wind conditions as I think it will split too much information (eg if one group of serious users don't check the other forum, then info might not be spread thru the windsurfing group as effectively).
I can appreciate the different views.....

Relic,
I too get pissed with the constant whatsapp drivel that spews from you southern communist utopians. I suppose "working" for the government down there means you have little to do and a free tax payers phone to do it on. So i just give myself a whatsapp southern windsurfing group time out. (turn off the notifications) until i want to find out where you are sailing...

For mine the problem is that seabreeze is a ****ty internet 1.1 box of crap that has evolved to function effectively on an smart phone slower than captain planet Al. (he started carrying a phone last week and is officially the last bloke under 80 years old on planet earth to do so) (even Houston carries a phone and he was born back before they started issuing birth certificates)

the inclusive nature of seabreeze is lost on whatsapp and the ability to post fluff topics in the fluff topic thread and serious windsurfing critical info in the "serious ****" threat.

is there any IT guru's here that want a little project to build a new platform/app?, i for one would be a big supporter. the golden age of windsurfing when everyone was using Seabreeze is past but not forgotten.

relic is a great bloke and a important contributor to the community, i feel his frustration.

ps, once i get banned by seabreeze admin i'll be posting under my new nickpryde1 handle

Nice one lads. If I know it's going to be windy and I can sail, I turn notifications on Whatsapp on and helps me find people & places to sail. For gpsing I rely on Kaleb's posts. Keep it up Buzzy, much appreciated!
If I can't sail that day I have to keep notifications off or I get frustrated & anxious.
I find Damo is on the ball all the time answering people in dire straits wanting to know if it's windy somewhere, 9 X out of 10 he answers them back, which is very great of him.
Some things are funny, sometimes it all gets a bit much when decisions are being made but it in end I think it's a great tool to have & people sort Of feel part of a group. I'll shut now, coffee breaks over!

What a revelation, some people are unhappy with the content of social media.
We are all different in what we perceive as funny & relevant.
If you are unhappy with what is being offered then don't use it- simple.
Like they said in the days before social media " have a bex and a good lie down".

I'm with Damo, there should be more "insults aimed at certain people" allowed on SB, ... And FoS "We want people to feel free to express themselves with an vindictiveness" ... And Clarence "more BS on seabreeze is the answer".

I might run for Parliament on that platform
..or apply for a journalism job specialising in selective quotation (or is that tautology)?
