Hey Guys,

Im a bit new around here, so some advice would be kindly appreciated.Although it wont be warm, the wind could be pretty nice! I leave to go overseas to sail RSX for a few weeks on Sunday week, so i'd love to have one last slalom hit-out before I go... From what I've looked at and read, Dorans Road in Lauderdale would be pretty good in a west sou-westerly? I have no idea though, would anyone here go there on a day like the one being predicted? If not, where WOULD you go?Cheers, Jock

(For those who don't use WindGuru, the first row of numbers are the windspeed, the second row is gust, the arrows are direction and the bottom row is the temp. )

Hey jocky
Like that shows it will be gusty, and probably choppy it the best sailing will probably be dorans rd.

You can check out the spot guide
www.thespotguide.com.au/TAS/index.html

Possibly Mortimer if it turns more southerly

That spot guide is really helpful! Thanks FoS! With any luck you'll see me somewhere down there on Sunday! I'm keen! Next question then, what gear would you be taking for a day like is forecast? all i've got is my starboard Isonic 117 and reflex 7.8 (other than my course racing gear, but im not gonna risk breaking that a week before worlds!!!!). Will I look like a moron rocking up with gear that big? Im quite confident on that kit and am definitely an experienced windsurfer, but everyone has their limits Thanks again!

Yeah you'll fit right in, some will be bump&jump but most still bring the slalom gear.

Being a Sunday I would expect the guys from the slalom nationals to be there.
She'll be right

Jock, being starboard team sailors they might let you have a borrow/ trial of one of their other size sails

Hi Jock. You bought the 117 off me. I know Alan Short will be on exactly the same kit as you tomorrow. He sails big. From what I've seen from you sailing I think you can handle anything I won't be there tomorrow ( surgery on foot and not allowed to get wet yet). Good luck in the RSX in a few weeks. I reckon you should go in our slalom events next season too, you'd love it, right up your alley, and the more the merrier!

Hi Karen, yep, thats the board I got off you, its going strong! :) And thats reassuring that I wont be alone, so thanks for that! Hope your foot gets well soon! And I would love to get along to some, the problem is not having the ability to drive myself around, still on my L plates!! But if I can find a way to get along I'd love to have a blast! What sort of dates do those events start up again??

Jock check the link below to this seasons Circuit Guide that'll give you an idea. We actually had only one wave event down south and none up north, most of the competition is slalom and GPS, we'll get onto next season's calendar some time in August.
Be good to see you on the circuit next season

Wind forecast still looks good for Dorans tomorrow........................... temp?.......next question

G'day Jock, where are you located? Someone might offer you a ride. I remember back in the day. It's hard to believe; 34 years ago I started on a Windsurfer one design at age 14. There were lots of people getting into this weird new water sport; "Sailboarding" the term Windsurfing was a patented trade mark. Onlookers watched bewildered, boat sailors hated us as much as some dislike knitters! It wasn't unusual to see 20 plus sailors on the water. Board choice was simple. Windsurfer OD or Windsurfer OD. With 6.2 Dacron sail that would eventually stretch out to 6.5 resembling a large soggy bed sheet! They came in Mylar a bit later, but they exploded like chip packets if pushed into too strong winds.
I was so desperate to go sailing. I built a board trailer for my push bike with some old steel water pipe and a chopped up BMX. I got some puzzled looks from passing motorists.
A push bike trailer to Doran's might be a bit of a stretch. So ask for a ride. The crew with licences used to take pity on me and offer me a ride...sometimes they'd even give me a driving lesson!

Hi Relic, those sound like the good days!! ahaha, attitudes towards windsurfing havent changed, let me tell you! Im one of only 3 at the RYCT, so we are vastly outnumbered!! But the little beginners love it, they think its the coolest thing ever so in 5 years we might get lots of young ones getting into it! Im Sandy Bay, and ill definitely be throwing out the line to someone for some Slalom events and good day! ahaha

Was a pretty wicked day!! Feeling pretty stoked! Thanks to everyone who commented and helped out, I appreciate it, but EXTRA special thanks to Houston for letting me use his Naish 5.8 Bullet (plus mast, extension and base) when my 7.8 was JUST a bit big. Legend! See you all soon hopefully!

Great to see some youth on the water today! I'm certain Jock will give the local GPS racers a run for their money soon from what I observed today. Look out Local Heroes!
A good session was had at a sunny rainbow, shrouded Mortimer Bay with a balmy southerly breeze by all. I counted ten sails at least.

I had my Severne at the ready! Waited for a while because it was a bit ferocious for a 7.8, then of course once I got out on something else it died down and would have been perfect on the 7.8! Such is life, ahaha

Most of us under-rigged if we all went up a metre we'd be cranking............a bit deceptive rigging under those big eucalypts sounds very windy til you get on the water.

Jock unfortunately you put a hole in my sail, bent the mast base and cracked the mast, I'll let you off if you kick arse in Portugal
