The weekend of the 11-13th is the Stanley weekend and the AGM.
It is time to call for new representatives. A new team looking for a new approach to running windsurfing Tas.

We need to fill the positions of:
President
Secretary
Treasurer
Public officer
AWA representative

We also require a sound number to share the minimal committee duties and be the ideas team.
Race/Slalom coordinator
Wave sailing co-ordinator
Publicity coordinator

This weekend is also about fun. Looking forward to catching up with passionate sailors, sailing until the limbs no longer work hanging at the beach and talking a lot about windsurfing.

Thanks Gill.
I am happy to help out with lending the learner boards, but it has been very slow this season. Anthony and myself have noticed a drop in interest compared to last season., probably the weather again!
I am Happy to remain as a contact for learner gear through windsurfing Tas but would not like to remain on the committee any longer.

I think it would be nice to see the team sailors remain members of the Committee, these are the sponsored guys/girls we see on the water all the time, and the best option for competing in and, organizing the events that have always been the backbone/main attraction of Windsurfing Tasmania .Sadly regular competitive events have diminished.

cheers

I will be heading up with the boys. Last year I offered to organise a few activities for the young dudes. Ended up having an awesome SUP/surfing session at the East inlet.

If other kids want to come let me know and maybe we can organise something again.

Im hoping a flurry of enthusiasm is about to occur. If there's no committee there will be no windsurfing Tasmania. A shared load makes it a very minimal commitment.

i am happy to take on one of the positions.

Will discuss before the weekend.

I also think it needs to be stated that being on the committee is not a huge amount of work.

The couple of events I have been involved in this season have been well worth the effort.

Those who would like to be on the committee this year please express your interest here so nominations can be made. These are very important people who help make decisions for W.T. Committee discussions are all via email so it is very easy to be involved and contribute and help shape the direction of W.T

Hi Gill,
Are there any 'general' committee positions? Positions with a little less responsibility than those listed above (prez, treas, sec, PO, AWA rep, or race co-ordinators)? If so, I would be happy to be involved in that capacity - if I'm required.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to Stanley this weekend.
Hope it all goes well.

The option of re-scheduling the AGM to Sunday evening was discussed last night. I'm putting it out there in advance now rather than it being a last minute decision.

It looks like middle of the day Sunday will be the best wind of the three days at Stanley, with a respectable direction also. By the way the run from town over to the channel and back is a lot of fun for those who like it a little rough.

Can we make it an option in principle at this stage, with a few other committee members agreeing to this just in case? Say 6.30pm at caravan park kitchen or pub as the option.

It was a good meeting last night I will post a summary of the ideas here later today.
Concerning the meeting the wind should always be the priority. What do our local wind gurus Geoff and Perkins think?

There were four main points discussed in the W.T meeting last night
Incorporation
Membership benefits
Events
Communication

In Summary

INCORPORATION
This will be sorted ASAP as it is essential that the club safely covers those willing to organise events, and prevent them from becoming personally liable.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
At the moment the club operates in a very inclusive manner. This provides very little motivation for membership.
Most W.T activities are not exclusive to members. This inclusive approach is an important value but it does not encourage membership and relies on members joining as a feel good or simply supportive activity. We have a surprising number of members willing to join on this criteria.

Spot guide, face book info, whats app, weather stations, social events are all not membership dependant.

It was discussed what events could make the club worth joining;
Membership dependent free movie nights
Trophies like that unearth by Anthony Perkins
Introduction of a new GPS 5 trophy
A Wave Trophy
Social events for members only
Discount vouchers for Members

The GPS5 rounds event has significantly encouraged membership this year, as it is a membership dependent activity.
There is enthusiasm for events within the sailing community and those organised have been very successful.

It was noted that without some exclusivity there will be no club and no structure to safely organise events under.

LEARNER GEAR
Hire of learner gear dependent on organising incorporation.

CALENDER
There is difficulty in finding people to organise events with such a small committee group.
This is possibly due to a lack of membership benefit motivation to join club and be involved , possibly due to the current organisation format.

All events held this year were very successful and enjoyed by those who attended. The windsurfing community is very positive as demonstrated by discussions on Seabreeze.

Events that were a highlight this year;
The swansea weekend
Pizza night , season starter north
Bell bouy expression session
Hobart wave sail session
GPS rounds
Road trip
Discover sailing Deviot
Riverside learn to windsurf beach day
Dash for Cash

Looking forward to hearing more ideas from the windsurfing community at Stanley at the AGM as we move forward to a community relevant windsurfing club.

Its a bit tricky predicting the wind for the weekend atm because a low pressure system looks like it will develop in Bass Strait
on Saturday and into Sunday. The forecast for Sunday is for a moderate Easterly up to 20 kn.

Thanks for putting that together Gillian.

Regarding the formal/legal incorporation of WT, I have done a bit of research and it is not really a big deal cost, time or logistics-wise.

I will not go into it in too much detail here, but it looks like the necessary documents are ready to be signed off and submitted for incorporation of the organisation. A WT member (current or former??) who happens to be a lawyer had put a fair bit of work in to this to date- which is great.

For those who do not know, when WT is an incorporated organisation it creates a legal enitity of its own which is recognised by the Tasmanian Department of Justice. This means certain procedures, protocols and safeguards are in place for the running of the organisation. As far as I am aware most clubs (eg sporting groups, bushwalking clubs) operate as incorporated organisations.

Once WT is incorporated again it is a far better setup for everyone involved.

If we cannot get any nominations for southern members, we might have to see if MrSpanker is available to represent the interests of Snake River and other areas south of Oatlands.

On a more serious note, I reckon Adam and Paul would be good on the committee.
