Hey Guys,

Was down at Chelsea beach tonight having fish and chips with my wife, and we were watching a small dinghy sailing, and out of control for a while, when he disappeared. We couldnt see him for 5 mins, so I called the Coast Guard who said they would moniter the situation.

Not sure how they would do that though from Williamstown!!

Another 5 mins and we called 000. Whilst I was still on the phone and I finally had the guy in sight, a helicopter appeared overhead, 2 cop cars came into the car park, followed closely by a cop bike, an ambulance, and the Police lauch screaming across the bay towards Chelsea!

They winched up the guy (whoes boat had sunk) and then landed on the beach and gave him to the paramedics.

So next time you see someone in the water, a boat, or a windsurfer, or what ever struggling out there, keep an eye on them, and if in doubt, call 000, NOT THE COASTGUARD!!!!!!

We have to look out for fellow water users!!

I think your advice is right to call 000 first rather than the Coast Guard, but I'm pretty sure that the Coast Guard do contact the police rather than rely solely on their own volunteer resources.

I think someone owes you a slab.
