Where is every one windsurfing this weekend?

Let's hope the forecast is true and happens. We did get a good amount of wind Tuesday and for us who were lucky enough to get time off work had great sail.
Myself: I have some family duties Saturday morning and early afternoon, but will hope to get out late afternoon at my local (Bonno). Sunday will depend on how much west or south is in the wind direction. If more south I will at Bonno if more west then Mount Martha.

Refer to the extract from BOM forecast below for Port Philip Bay.

Local Waters Forecast for Port Phillip
Issued at 5:18 am EDT on Friday 4 February 2011

Forecast for Saturday
Winds: West to southwesterly 5 to 15 knots tending southwesterly up to 30 knots by early evening. Seas: Below 0.5 metres increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres later in the evening. Isolated thunderstorms early in the morning.

Forecast for Sunday
Winds: South to southwesterly 20 to 30 knots becoming southerly 10 to 20 knots during the evening. Seas: 0.5 to 1.5 metres.

Please note; this is not a WV event and this post is to be used as information only. The intent of this post is for windsurfers to post where they could be going to windsurf this weekend and for other windsurfers to possible come and join them.

Sat maybe Elwood.

Sunday maybe St Kilda - seems to be a bit smoother over there in a Southerly - probably because of the harbour there.

Given the downpours expected Friday and Saturday, I may stay clear from the far northern part of the bay - ie pookipa. Bonno looks good if SSW or SW is happening as predicted.

If Sunday is about 20 knots maybe we can have an unofficial short board bay clinic at Bonno. Like what we discussed at the One Hour Race.

Do you think the bay will be suitable for sailing? You wouldn't want to take a mouth full at the moment someone told me the treatment plant at Carrum had overflowed into the Patterson R.

I think you will struggle with the tide at Leo, unless the wind stays around all day. High tide is around 3. Sailed Mount Martha today and that was fine (apart from a lack of wind for a 5.4)

When Windrider says he is heading somewhere, he doesn't come alone. He arrived at Mt. Martha with about 15+ sailors from the Bonbeach crew.

As you probably worked out, it blew up just as you guys left, ended up getting a decent 3 hour sail. Hope you guys finally found some wind too. Shame I didn't get a sail with you guys.

G'day Le.
We didn't have to go far….
We all sailed just down the road at Safety Beach. It was awesome once we got 100m or so off the beach.

If the bay doesn't clean up soon at our end of the bay then there is a very good chance we will sail with you one day soon. (it's very nice down there)

Did anyone sail today on Westernport?? Keen to hear how it was.

I talked to Jerry (whom I think I would have recognised earlier if he had his helmet on) but shame I missed chatting to you. I really should have moved to safety beach with you guys. Sounds like Mt. Martha got the same wind but there was only two of us left sailing there by then, so would have been nice to have a more social sail.

Definately let us know when you guys are heading south again.

Aldo just told me on facebook that he went to Shoreham at that time and there wasn't enough wind then. Unsure if it blew up after that.

-Yes Le, Jerry is very fond of that grey helmet... ....he sometimes wears it while driving his van around

Next time we will catch up for sure (even if you did break my Carve 99 in half!!)

i didnt go out on sunday, as i opted to go surfing.
drove all the way to Lorne to get some clean waves.

The wind down the surf coast was strong all day and all through the arvo.
there was even kiters at fairhaven, easternview..
It looked to be around 16/20 knots.

they were flying 14m and one 16m kite.

I really wish i took my wind kit as the banks were cr@p at lorne for surfing. total closeouts.

Tried to get down to Sandy Point very early Sunday. Took over an hour to get from Aspendale to Cranbourne because of closed roads, and then got turned around at Tooradin as Koo Wee Rup was reputed to be about to flood. Spent 30 minutes on the back roads before being told by the police that the road I'd just come up had been closed and if I had any sense I'd drive north until I found high ground as they couldn't guarantee my safety as they thought the Levees were about to break.

By 09:30 I'd been driving for over three hours and was in St. Kilda for a very gusty / soupy sail. Pretty surprised I haven't felt any nasty side effects.

Windsurfing fail.
