Hey guys,
I'm intermediate and having trouble dealing with the dreaded port Philip chop, sailing out of Chelsea. wondering if there's anywhere along mordi to frankston that is less prone to a beach break as this is hindering my time on the water and also draining my energy.

Hi mate, between beaumaris and franga, there is not really any protected spots, it gets choppy really quick in an sort of onshore winds. Rye in a northerly can be fairly flat and we get a lot of northerlies that work down there in winter. Dendy street Brighton is pretty flat in anything with south in it.

Having said that chelsea can be reasonably flat on a N-NE but is usually gusty.

If you really want flat water, then head to inverloch, but thats a 1.5 hour drive.

Just pick low to mid tides at Inverloch as high tides with a bit of wind can cause a washing machine. Hook into our facebook(Inverloch Windsurfing Club) page to see were we are heading out from

thanks for all the help dudes!
I managed to get out at Chelsea last night before the wind completely dropped off and it was manageable, I always get excited when the forecast has some east in it!
I guess I need to commit to making the drive somewhere else whilst getting the hang of it!

Could try Sandringham Harbour with Southerly. The new beach they created about 15 months ago at the end of Linacre Rd is a great spot for beginners to intermediate. (Park in Linacre rd next to park)
As your skills improve you gradually launch further north along Hampton Beach, and the chop will increase as you do so.
