Tweaked out my foot yesterday in 3' - just a strain so should be back in the water next weekend. I know you're supposed to hang onto your kit when you wipe out but sometimes it gets blown out of your hands or the instinct to bail is just too strong....Twisty old footstraps and booties are a bad combination!

A suggestion from someone with a very sore foot - replace those tired worn out footstraps!

I would also state that it is much harder to bail with booties on. With bear feet the inherent grip left when you un-clench your toes is fairly minimal, with booties on this is not the case.

However yes, nothing worse than twisting footstraps, some board manufacturers are significantly ahead in this regard; JP etal with the pins in the strap/plugs in the deck so it makes it impossible for the straps to twist.

Another story

Last year at Gnaraloo went over the falls with one of my bootied feet in the foot strap. Wave only moderate size.

I thought I had broken my ankle the pain was so intense.

Now one foot is approx 10mm longer than the other and the arch of the foot is much lower. I stretched my foot! - 12months later it is still streched.

A friend who is a physio - just laughed when he saw my foot and said the usual - 'well I've never seen that before'.

Change those twisted straps and don't wear booties.
