Is Flat Rock the sailing spot in Ballina? Saw a post with that mentions Flat Rock in Woolgoolga (north of Coffs Harbour). Another talks about Flat Top??

What are the best sailing conditions at Flat Rock Ballina?

Woody Head looks like another good spot. I camped there once but the wind wasn't strong enough. Assume a NW or SW would be good? Best place to launch?

Have windsurfed north of Redcliff (mouth of Lake Arragan?) which was very good until the wind dropped. From memory there was good wave 50-100 meters out and another set closer to the beach. Also a bit of a current to contend with. Carried gear from campsite car park behind trees to launch area.

Underwater reefs rocks to avoid in these? Now I ask...

Pandanus Tree Wavesailing club used to have a web site with a summary of good spots corrensponding preferable wind directions?

Flat top Ballina is a great place for wave sailing. It works in a SSW, south to SSE. SSW to south being the best for down the line wave sailing. SE is still fun bit it is SLIGHTLY onshore. It is also cross off to cross in a N or a NW on the south side of the flat rock. This is our consisting wave sailing spot in this region. Winter southerlies bring better swell and inconsistent wind, summer brings consistent wind and inconsistent swells. Both sides of the flat rock are fun to sail with the rock keeping waves clean even in the windiest of conditions. Winter is the pick though when there is size, blue skies and a steady southerly.

There is two Flat Tops, one in each location mentioned, both are Flat Rocks (hence Flat Top).

had a chat to a few of the yamba locals today who used to windsurf, they reckon flat rock in ballina would be the place to be.

I gave pippi beach a crack today, but very onshore and was a little light plus the sweep made it less fun. ended up rigging bigger gear and sailing in the river instead.

might give ballina a shot tommorrow, how was it today?

A bit light - good direction cross of to cross. Was perfect for the kiters. Some good size swell..logo high on the sets.
