Today I got Munched at Margaret River.Note to Self: next time bottom turn BEFORE the Surgeon's Table. If anyone sees a MauiSails Global 5.4 (wrapped around a shredded mast) floating into shore, please let me know.

However, I suspect it's on the way to Madagascar... or safely stowed in Davey Jones' Locker.

No longer a Margaret River Virgin... I intend to go back and try again once I replace the sail.

Cheers Everyone.

The day before I was a hero on the break... turning on the critical section... best waves of my life... but not yesterday. Some days you eat the bear... and yesterday I was lunch.I see it as paying my dues... cost: one rig and some minor reef rash... I'll be back. I've already ordered another mast and sail from Phil McGain and will continue with my apprenticeship at Main Break once it get here... that is, once I've returned from the LOC and three weeks in Gero.Life is good.
BTW, I posted some photos of the day before on my Facebook Page: Mark DeFriest

Been there done that. My rig got munched. I went for a walk along the beach near the lagoon early the next morning only to find parts of my rig. The other half was already placed in the bin near the car park. Margs takes no prisoners.

I lost a whole (intact) rig in the rip there - broken uni, had to choose between chasing new Stone in the rip or trying to swim in with rig....rig never seen again despite much searching on land and snorkelling the bay (great fun in Pointer season). Sometimes they wash up on the rocks, but mine's not the only one never to be seen again.
Good luck learning to sail Margs - the only way to do it properly is to be prepared to hit the peak and thus trash gear. Hugging the shoulder there is crap as there's no wall - I'd know, I've been doing just that for years.
