I don't think it really matters what board your on when you get x'd up coming down from 12 feet high

I seen it happen .............pretty unlucky like all injuries / as stated above

He was short cutting riding the last 100m of a 300m wave which was wrapping around with an incoming tide and close out at 6 foot and getting worse as the day progressed, he went out late mid arvo with wind a bit stronger but so was the current and wind a tad more cross on , This is an area to avoid or muck around with as it can lock you in on the wave yer take it on but arials at the end risky / training or what ever this place needs to be sailed to the conditions not played with as it will play with you , decrease risk not increase it , what your prepared to risk body or gear or both if YOU fk up / but far as I saw it ,he under estimated THE NEW SWELL that had arrived , most times he me you flicked out but he could not help an arial after a 50m locked in flat out top to bottom run and arial he landed in the flats and exploded and got destroyed ... with back foot coming out ****** his front knee ........better hitting the 3 bubbles less hassels and risk

Nasty injury and a night mare trip home .............he will be back............ injured like that NW WA to Germany .............oooch horrible would not have been enough drugs , short of being place into a coma

Very isolated experience with no hype or provardo

In past wave competition include 99% wave riding, today in PWA wave everbody push on jumps,even wave spot dont have enough big waves for normal raiding like in cabo verde ,jaws etc..

I personally think we should reflect on the danger of sailing at Gnaraloo. If this can happen to a pro it can happen to anyone riding any brand of board. On the other hand a pro pushes the limits more than the average more pedestrian rider. I sincerely hope Mr Koster gets better real soon. I also hope no one else suffers a similar injury at the site. I speculate there are a fair number of injuries there, perhaps more than we hear about. That said it is a remote site and with many hazards. No one should think it is a walk in the park. Indeed, I have never sailed Gnaraloo but I have sailed Mast and over high Margaret River in the 1980s a number of times with 2 or 3 out. I would much prefer to sail there relatively close to medical assistance...at least medical help is not far away... showing my age I guess. On the other hand I feel I should like to sail Gnaraloo in the future. I guess one should go there fully prepared for all risks, contingencies and understand the water, hazards, tides, shallow reef, dry sucky sections etc. Tearing an ACL is only one potential thing that can go wrong e.g. reef cuts etc., infections etc. Pushing the limits means you are more likely to suffer risk of injury in those conditions.

..agree be prepared, many who go regularly will have already seen what the place can dish out and or paid their dues so to speak to where the desert meets the sea spirits. From peeling back the skin on your big toe on some sandstone lurking under the sand just after you arrive, or doing knees, shoulders etc, to snake & shark bites, or stabbing yourself in the forearm to the saddest and worst of them all.....

Its a place that commands great respect for its riches, but remember the help one may need can be long way away.

I don't think there was any jumping at Hookipa so I guess what we saw was %99.99 wave riding....KP can still do the odd nice turn

Look at the AWT Wave events. All Classic Wave riding spots. The better of the 2 comps by far.
