MILD being the operative word.
I just got one and it is not as good with the weed as I'd hoped - but it does feel the same as a normal wave fin which is good as I was sick of trying to ride a wave with a weedy pointer thing. Yuck.
I find it sheds any weed once planing but it will hold onto weed whilst getting up on to the plane so that is a little frustrating.

I think the best one by far is the Wardog Weed Wave made by True Ames, you'll be able to get it from a USA shop eaisly if you don't mind waiting.

Cheers guys,

I ve just got a 90 FSW RRD and go out chasing the swells in Warnbro sound, but with my current weedy, the board loses all its manoeuvrability with what feels like a fence picket as a fin but then I put the supplied MFC fin on and its good but catches all the weed and same problem. I'll look up Wardog fins and try and find a JP.
cheers

I'm not really much of a sailor (if you'd seen my gumby efforts on Monday you would have died laughing), BUT have used one of these extensively.
I sail a lot at Woodies and even Dutchies where there is a lot of weed, especially ribbon weed.

The JP Weed Wave 26 is great, sheds weed like a brushcutter and performs well in waves, in fact I prefer it to the 29cm fin that came standard with the board.

Hey Stone,

I have the same board and I use the 28 Flying Objects Weedster. Works fine on anything from 4.7 to 6.5. Come and say hello next time you are down there and you are welcomed to try it out.

I'm a big fan of the Makani fins, I run them in all my boards now. I find their performance outstanding when compared to normal fins but I personally feel the weed waves have better upwind performance over the standard wave fin. They come in wave, tri-fin (Both available in powerebox) and even quad and twins, All of which I've used and rate highly. They fly through the thickest weed in lake illawarra and glyde over cray pot lines all day long...The best thing is the price!

I run a 20cm weed wave in my 93 and 102 and it's ample size and plenty loose....

Look up their website, They are a great bunch of guys to deal with.

The weed wave....

The Tri-fin...

The Twin/Quad...

I've got both the Wardog and the MFC weed fins. I recommend getting a smaller Wardog weed than you think you need - my 22 cm Wardog weed feels bigger on a wave than my 24 cm MFC San Carlos weed fin. I used to use them with a 6.5 and the 22 cm Wardog fin was plenty big enough for that sail.
