While everyone else was skiing, some nice clean swell rolled in to Long Reef one Friday afternoon in July, accompanied by a solid Westerly wind. Rohan Cudmore was the standout, delivering a masterclass in staying in the pocket and blasting the lip. We sailed till our hands were bleeding, the stoke was high! Nice to see Longy can still put it on, such a fun session!

Thanks to Andy Grant for capturing the action and withstanding the withering blast.

Featuring David Robison, Rohan Cudmore, Jun Nagamori and Andrew Forsyth.

Cheers JH! bring on the NEsters with some southerly swell in Sept and we'll have to get the cameras down to Gerroa - my favourite break in the East coast!

If only it was that good more often. Definitely my fave conditions for Longy.
Rohan still shreds. Glad Brett wasn't there - we would look terrible by comparison!

Down ze Line :)

Next time you need to be on a smaller board but you still were shredding it on the 95!

Got to be better than sailing at the lake. Keen to give it go next Westerly as long as someone else is out.

It works but tends to be gusty. You'll definitely want a floaty board.

A good tip: avoid walking through the lagoon. I sailed through it last year in winter on the way back to the car park. I had a tiny cut on my toe and three days later is looked like someone had pumped up a balloon inside.

Went to my GP to get it checked out. Turns out I had a fecal coliform bacterial infection. She gave me a triple dose of antibiotics and several weeks later I had to get a scan done as the swelling didn't go down. The toes is still bigger then it used to be. Apparently if I would have waited a little bit longer to see a GP I most likely would have lost the toe or worse.

Yeah a floaty board is the key. Gees that toe infection sounds nasty -I've walked through the lagoon 1,000 times and never had a problem though - still good to know it can be polluted and to be wary.

G'day Starboarder,

Wind looks better on Friday but waves look better on Sat. Shame they are not coming together this week. Sat might work on a floaty board?

Jun picked it last time -what sayeth the oracle?

SW can work. SSW never seems to be fun.

Sailed Long Reef today in the Westerly. Bit gusty and probably rigged a size too small but it was gusting over 30 when rigging up and down to 18 on the water, then with a few 25 knot gusts coming in later. No swell today but had a bit of blast. It was easy to get in and out due to the angle of the beach and the runs where good, just a worry if you break something.

Nice vid Andrew. Tim and I were out a couple of weeks before in a W although not quite that swell. It was quite frustrating, at times
powered & planing off the beach then 2 knots & couldn't catch the waves - that is the nature of Long R in a westerly.

Yeah Tom it was just like the the good old days ! That rare combo where there is enough wind and swell for it all to come together. Just wish I could have made better use of it, being a Goofy footer. Bring on some big southerly swell at Gerroa!
