4. Attach a trailer to the motor home.

I think the motor homes don't have roof racks because they are too high to reach.

If you're just planning on going to Geraldton rent some accommodation there.

If you're planning on moving on every couple of days the motor home is the way to go.

Same as Windxtasy - except the boards go in the trailer as well (surfski on roof).

We have a dog as well which of course rides with the people. Now that the kids are older they dont want to come so there is more room for everyone.

On a Gnaraloo trip a few years back two of us filled up a 4WD and trailer and slept in tents. But that was becasue we were taking all the food and water.

It does depend a lot on where you are planning to stay.

I think the best option as it looks to me now is a car (maybe 4WD) with roof rack + a caravan trailer.
I am a bit sceptical about buying a car for a 2-month period only. Seems you have to pay quiet a lot if you want a reliable car/camper.
Here in Europe you see many motor homes with surf stuff on the roof. But apparently that is not the best option in Australia.
We plan to be around Geraldton most of the time maybe we drive further north too. Gnaraloo is maybe not the best place for two small kids and my wife (she is practicing the power jibe these days). I am sure we will spend some days in Lancelin too.

Do you think we have to book a place for the caravan for jan/feb at a campsite in Geraldton already now? I hope not I would prefer to be a bit flexible.

I agree Sunset beach caravan park is good for the family, and right on the beach.
They have onsite chalets which are good too.
