I have a Mistral synchro fish (83L) atm and love sailing it, its great in most conditions and it has handled some pretty big waves. I weight around 85kg and find I can throw it around quite well but you can only push it so far. Im looking for a board that has a tight turning circle when riding waves, something I can push harder, for bottom turns and cut backs etc...Im looking at the JP waveboards right now, I like the look of the twinser board or maybe the quad. Ive never sailed a board with more than one fin and would like peoples thoughts and feelings on multi finned boards before i dive into the markets. As always with wave sailing, heading upwind is something I want to be able to do well, as well as turning hard without loosing grip. Are twinsers better for this and is being a heavier sailor a disadvantage with this type of board?

I've been using a Quatro twin fin for the last year and love it to bits.
I'm only a light weight at 70kg and i think the board is around 72lts.

I use 160cm fins whether im using my 5.3 or 4.1 and have no problems getting up wind at all.

Until you try a twin fin you will never fully appreciate how good it is to push into a bottom turn in front of a solid wave with the confidence that it will hold its line no matter how hard you push

They will take some getting used to and you will have to adjust your sailing style
the first few bottom turns sent me straight over the front.

Try a few different ones as some are defiantly better than others and its not always the board that sails the easiest straight away is necessarily the best one,as i say they do take some getting use to

Get the wrong board and you could hate them and be stuck on a single fin for ever

Read the reviews and try to make some of your judgments from them

There is a new quatro onshore twin fin coming out next month that should be faster and early planing which i think will suit alot of WA conditions.
I will be queuing up to have a go for sure

sounds like a twin fin is the way to go...I want to keep hold of the synchro as its a great board, sooo easy to sail and user friendly.But thats also the reason i want to try the twinser boards, to try and progress in the waves a little more. Ive found withthe mistral that sometimes i cannot physically push it any further during some bottom turns. Its 83l, so its hardly a small wave board, its designed for pretty mushy onshore euro style sailing as far as i can make out, not so ideal for carving up the surf. Im certainly not an expert sailor by any means, but really want to push it in the surf this season, get into some bigger waves with a smaller slashier board. Wave riding is definitley my priority. I will take a look at the quattro twinny amongst others for sure, thanks for the comments fellas. Cant wait for the summer! Gonna be siiiick!
