Hi All,

Just a note to clarify a couple of points -
1/ The Lancelin Chamber of Commerce run the Lancelin Ocean Classic (including the Ledge Pt. to Lancelin Marathon), and WWA have historically worked with the organisers to facilitate the running of the wave and slalom components of the event (the bits we are good at).
2/ The insurance WWA has is provided through the AWA to whom WWA pay annual fees. This insurance covers public liability for WWA as an event organising body, and provides members with public liability cover (although this has a member to member exclusion). For example - if your equipment injured a member of the general public, say it blew down the beach and struck and onlooker, the insurance should apply. The cover will not help you if you hit another sailor whilst competing. (Insurance companies don't like the risk of competitive events and insurance to cover every outcome/senario including participation in competition - like belting over very shallow water at significant speeds for example - is extremely expensive)
3/ The suggestion of a Mandurah Club may have some merit. Were the hypothetical MWC affiliated with WWA, it would come under the AWA insurance cover and your membership fees could largely be used to further the Mandurah cause. WWA Affiliation fees (of which the insurance component makes up the vast majority) I believe are about $20 per Club member. Direct WWA membership is currently $50 per annum.
The out clause - the above is just a bit of input from me personally -
not an official response from WWA - hopefully it just sets a few things out a bit more clearly.
Regards
Dan
