Hi All,
Posted on here before, but the Wife and I are really now starting to grasp that our perm residency visa will expire April 2015 and as a result I am starting to look at possible job openings.
I currently work in London as a Java Developer. No J2EE, just plain java server side development. Now searching Java jobs in perth, I struggle to see how I will get a Java job as pure Java roles just don't exist. I am also starting to feel that me and IT Development are on a collision course for a divorce at some point soon.
In a past life I was a cabinet maker, who spent 5 years making custom kitchens and fitted furniture. I still keep my hand in and have a workshop of my own. Currently make contemporary furniture. An example of a couple of pieces are shown below

ideally, I would like to find a role that gives me flexibility. Tired of the same old Mon-Fri 9-5 routine (yawn), and wonder whether I would easily be able to find work. If I could work for myself that would be perfect or with someone else who has the same "Work to Live" ethos. I am also very practical having refurbished 2 houses on my own. Plumbing / Kitchens and bathrooms.
So if any IT devs or Joinery / Furniture maker windsurfers have any ideas I would love to hear them.
PS - Don't have much savings so will need to find work and can last about 2 months without.
Thanks
Justin
