Annual trade show lands next week and I'll be in attendance. If we have good conditions I hope to try a couple foils from the more niche companies and will be looking around for new doubleskin/hybrid parawing options. As always, happy to scrounge around and look for other things. Any requests?

Listening to the podcast on XFoils, Chris from F4 saying they won’t be there. Funny how the hottest thing re foils is kind of excluded due their marketing model. I guess no point having a stall at a dealer meet when you have no dealers.

In the UK F4 foils are a complete non event - if you want one you have to internationally import it, no opportunity what-so-ever to try one.
So it's a three grand punt to find out if it suits you or not - and then there's zero second hand market for them if you find it not to your taste or you picked the wrong front foil.
Those few things combined mean that the chances you even see someone on F4 is pretty much zero.

The videos are nice, the hype is lovely but as a brand it's just not here at all. I do wonder if Europe is the same.

The Kite Puerto Rico guys will be there and they are one of a very few f4 dealers in the US. They will be representing the brand to some degree and they have an event (“debuting” the f4 piranha) as well.

Hypes come and go. There are lots of solid brands out there for us mere mortals without Maui conditions.

One reason I never looked at F4 seriously despite being based in EU was a story here on Seabreeze about a year or so ago of someone ordering their foils and receiving a box with a pile of parts..super poorly packed. There were some shocking looking pics I'm sure they improved ever since..

Anyway..back to topic 🙂

I have never seen any product packet so well as F4 foils.

I think it depends on your use case but if its riding bumps downwind then F4 don't need to market and the hype was created by the punters trying their foils. It was hard to ignore half of the Maui recreational downwinders changing to F4 just because they got to try it.
I had a demo on the 800 Orca with the 13mm mast and it immediately replaced my 1000 900 800 eagle x's. It took just one bump to understand the groundswell of support for these foils.
I sold 7 fone foils and I use 3 f4 foils to cover the same range for prone, tow and DW. The performance is real and yes I pay for my foils.

Totally agree with this.
One try of a 1050 Orca and my order went in despite having a big quiver of another brand.
Since added more sizes.
All came super well packed.

I don't have any skin in the game but the interesting thing for me is that outside of the forums only one of my friends liked F4. Everyone else bought it and sold it pretty quickly. Even several out in the Maui realm. Not saying there isn't something that people are stoked on there, but I'm saying it's not universally loved for whatever reason. I'm wondering if the people who like it use it for a very specific scenario and if that's not your plan then it wont impress as much?

I don't think the gorge is a downwind circumstance and as such many brands with good surf foils will suffice. Also F4 only recently came with an aspect 10 solution that makes most sense in the gorge most of the time.Probably a terrible place to test DW foils. Great place to test PW though.

Yeah I don't know anyone in the Gorge with F4 orcas. One guy recently got the manta. I know there are people around with the Orca but noone that I see regularly at the beach.

Me and two other friends are on F4 Orcas. They’re actually pretty great for the Gorge. Looking forward to trying the Piranha though.
