I finally had a good day winging with the 870. Rode in bay chop so nothing too big. About foot and half wind driven bay chop/swell. Rode the first hour with the 140 and a blue shim. Then the second hour with the 130 surf and blue shim. What a difference. With the 140, that thing would glide like it had a motor. But the turning to me felt stiff. I felt awkward. Made me question the 870 a little bit. Then when I put the 130 surf tail on, it made it a lot more agile and friendly. I could turn at will. Still had very good glide. This was few days ago and I was trying to digest how to explain the difference. To me. By switching from the 140 to the 130 tails. It felt like going from the 1180 HA to the 880 in terms of agility and playfulness. Can't wait to get more time in the surf with this combo.

So after saving up and selling some stuff I finally bought into UHA range starting with a 970. At 94kg intermediate I was looking for more glide and speed range than I had before on DWP930 and HA1180 for wing and parawing DW in very average conditions. Wow does the UHA970 deliver!
Using Dart 140 and Speed 180 stabs as that's what I have just now. Have really been blown away by how easy this thing is to use, the low end is just insane and pumping is so easy. Finding the turning pretty good compared to the 1180 but the speed range is easily better. And it just puts a smile on my face when it accelerates out of gybes.
Have sold the HA1180 because the low end is similar to the 970 in light wind on the ML85 and have ordered the UHA770 which I think might cover the 780/980. That said I had a great small wave/bump session winging on the HA980 yesterday so its not like they are bad foils!

So reading the previous comments should I order up a Surf 130 stab? Will it work better with the 970/770 in the bumps?

in the bumps meaning DW ?

We’ve found the the uhas really like the 120
dart. It’s small and fast. That being said 130
aith a blue and red also works okay to.

The 770 is a really good all rounder but keep your 980 - it has its place in the surf. That is until you try the Mas !!

ps your sizing checks out. 770 will easily
cover 780 to 980.

Surf stab and MA's are match made in heaven. I wouldn't necessarily order one just for a UHA - it definitely works fine shimmed, I am riding UHA770/surf 130 red shim.

Yeah DW on the bumps. I will see if I can find a 130.
Could be interested in an MA after I try out the 770 (ordering seems to take ages here in the UK) but will see how the 770 works first.
Thanks for the advice ;)
