Currently riding the Code 720S and honestly it checks all boxes for 80kg and my fit level.

That said, I’ve been eyeing off the 700X for punchier days/(tow in potentially) when I want to get tighter in the pocket, slash a bit harder top-to-bottom, and get a bit more reactive rail-to-rail roll.
I want to sanity-check my theory: Is the 700X going to give me ~10% better carving in the steep wave pocket, at the expense of being ~50% worse at everything else (pumping, glide, low-end)?

For those who have ridden both back-to-back:
Is the 700X that much looser and more surfy in critical sections to justify giving up the 720S glide?
How heavy is the pump/low-end penalty when trying to connect waves or get up in softer section slop?
Is the 700X strictly a tow / heavy-surf , or does it hold its own as a daily driver if you're willing to pump a bit harder?
Appreciate any real-world feedback!

I've used a lot the 720S and the 810X. For me those are comparable in terms of low end. The big difference in between these two is that the X has a lot less front foot pressure, it turns with a lot less drive and in a smaller radius. The 720S has more glide. They pump almost the same, maybe the 810X a touch better, but not by a lot. I can imagine the 700X will be somehow closer in terms of low end and "pumpability" to something in between the 500S and the 615S. Saying that I'm almost 100% sure that the 700X is a lot more surfy and not even near in glide to the 720S. It's somehow 2 steps down in size

I had the 720s and the 740x back to back with a wing and with a parawing for a while. I expected the 740x to have these unbelievable turns and feel super loose but I didn't get that. I chatted with another rider who also had both and said that most likely what I was experiencing was that the 720s is a foil that you can flick around from your ankles. The 740x (and the X line in general) is more of a power surfing full body carving tool. So, the turns are quite different.

Both were tested with the short fuse and crisp flex 110 tail.

I found the 720s to be vastly superior in pump and glide when comparing the two.

I absolutely love the 720s at 86kg but I didn't keep the 740x.

Slight hijack.
How’s the 110 at 86kg? I’m a couple of kg lighter and considering a crisp for more speed than my Armstrong 120. Any downsides?

It's the only tail I like to ride anymore. I think it loses something if you are trying to push hard upwind. A few of us have noted that a full carbon HA tail seems to be the best upwind and that when we switch to the flex 110 the upwind drops off. How much? I can't be sure. I haven't looked into getting a Code HA tail because the surfing, glide, pump, everything else is so good on the flex 110 with 720s.

For the river, I'm not sure you'll get the true benefit of the X series. The X series is all about hitting white water in waves. Controllable roll and reentry on airs.

Compared the the S you will lose glide. The S is the all around series from Code and hard to beat unless you're trying to specialize in one specific aspect.

Can only speak from my experience with the 810X at 87Kg. I've mainly PW downwinded the 980S in all the the usual Gorge wave spots, last and this season but wanted something smaller for the big days. Would have prefered an 850S but buying a new three season old foil seemed like financial suicide and this 810 came up used, so I jumped on it. It took three sessions or so to get used to it but now I'd never give it up. Anytime I can use a 3m or smaller doing Rufus runs or in the corridor I'll be on this, it's so forgiving and rolls so fast.
I would agree though there's still untapped potential there in breaking waves.
