but you’ve had the other V1 frigate sizes … hence the hand over.

Well this has certainly become an interesting thread. The whole PRV2 debacle has got Hilly and Eppo fired up!!

Any further comments on the low end of the frigv2? That seems like the most mentioned negative, although some mixed reviews on that and some saying it’s pretty good?

How do you guys like the line setup on the frigv2 and quest? That is something that attracts me to these wings, the stripped back simplified line setup. Are you finding its generally easier to work with, less tangles?

If you have both been using them in waves what is your stashing technique? Are you going up the 4 A’s / white stash lines like they were designed to do? What do you do after that do you need to collect the tips and pack it neatly or just kinda bunch it up. I have never been a fan of the 4 A’s stow method because once you go up the 4 As you still have a lot of canopy and lines flapping all around to deal with. I do a front line all line stow technique but that really only works when going downwind, not as suitable for waves. Do the quest and frigv2 work well with an all line stow?

lots of questions I know ! Thanks in advance

I know i am a reseller for the Frigates but i also sold a lot of the Ozone gear and am a big fan of Ozone, BUT !!

I kinda get the frustrations of Hilly and Eppo as i have been using the PR's since they were released and also had the Power packs so don’t get me started.

Spending most of this winter up north foiling i can honestly say i was not enjoying wave riding or upwind/downwind that much until the Frigate V2 arrived, going upwind is now a total blast and upwind capabilities are mind blowing on this thing.

For waves it packs so quick by just using the white stash lines without having to squeeze the air out of a self inflating mattress !!

Once you use the bar with the simple 2 point system you will understand, first session i had was nearly 100% deploy success.

Cheers

OH YEAH, I don’t understand the low end comments either, i am getting up in very similar winds on the 4.5mt Frigate as the Pocket rocket V2 5mt, they are crazy efficient.

I wouldn’t say fired up just more pissed from my perspective. Look the PRs are what they are. Beautifully built, ozone quality and reliable solid performance but Infeel they have missed the mark for us who have been at it a little while and are looking for more. I listened to a podcast just as I received them and thought surely not … but they were right. But the after burner feels too far away from regular user use if you know what I mean. Plus the stupid price tag.

When collapsing on the 4 whites the ears are really easy to collect because there’s hardly any air in the battens the 4 white A lines collapse. I was the same always used all the A lines for that reason but no need with the frigate. So I haven’t tried all the As. since.

I was also getting a lot of redeploy tangles the new PR - that yoke brings the lines really close to the bar - and Inwas at near 100 percent on the V1. But hey you adjust and learn ways for that not to happen which i’m sure I would have. But yeh the two lines is nice.

I cannot really claim any true indication of its light wind capabilities as I’ve been up north and the wind was always generous. Have had a few runs at home in “lighter” winds but not light enough to make any claims. It does want to shoot forward …

… first time I used it back home I taxied out in my knees to the right trying to avoid the head high waves coming in … and the bloody frigate drove so far upwind I nearly I caught in the set waves. That had never happened before - I had to turn around and tack back and away from getting crunched. Got up and did some insane angle - and I know what one reach normally gives you at my local relative to the land, reef and waves.

Why am I saying that ? … there will be a change of starting technique for sure in the lighter end of its range - to keep those back lines with some tension on them. Manage the back line tension before you let it shoot forward and drive you up. Kinda like the PR V1 before they stuffed with it to be honest.

Frigate low end ... I'm not having any issues, it is just a different technique. PR v2 you just yank on the bar and off you go, it sits deeper in the window, which hits later in top end. Frigate v2 sits further forward, so you have to use the bar to trim it back in the window. Once you do this low end is no longer an issue, working fine.

I've tested the Orbit, Afterburner and now the Frigate v2. The difference after all the testing is I bought two Frigate v2s.

Thanks for the replies guys. Sounds pretty epic overall! And great they have kept the price competitive with the rest of the market.
Jason I will definitely have to hit you up for a go on one sometime, keen to come down for a Mandurah run soon. The whole dead whale washing up right in the middle of the Perth downwind run is a bit of a buzz kill, Mandurah might be a good call for the next couple of months.

I have a 4.3 777 hybrid which I have only had a few sessions on and that is a beast upwind and for overall wind range but not too keen on the twin skin in waves. Something that works really well UWDW and still stashes good enough to use in waves would be amazing. Not that I get to decent waves much these days.

really eyeing off the 5.5m when that comes out, that is my most used size, not as much in summer but when you average it out over the year.

Looks so good! Really missing the up north trips, after becoming a dad I’m now in my second year of no up north trips and it’s bloody hurting ! Plus all the extra froth from the parawing and knowing the potential for it up there adds another dimension to the fomo, sounds like it’s been an epic year from all reports.

I see your doing the same method as Hilly was doing when I saw him on the para down south. Flag off the 4 A’s and then transfer the bar into the hand holding the para. Whilst you do have the canopy and lines flapping around which is a bit messy it does have the big advantage that the flagging is almost as quick as with an inflatable and you still don’t have to manage it like an inflatable. Are you guys pretty happy with this technique or do you want to work on wadding it up a bit or maybe going full stow?

The quick stow works well in waves and short up/down sessions. Full stow for long dw runs.

It is quite simple logic ....

Where I ride it is not always wave conditions and the swell we do get is wind blown, as such parawing riders here engage in wave riding and free riding. Additonally when winds are lighter the waves are quite unpredictable, so down wind runs can involve multiple stow and redeploys. We can also lap or do larger upwind runs and downwind back.
This means any parawing used here needs to work across all conditions - downwind, wave ride and free ride (sometimes with no waves at all) - and we could get all of those conditions in a single week.
I also want some degree of value for money from a purchase.

Orbit - pretty much only useful for big upwind runs and then downwind, good wind range, annoying to freeride, not a good tool for multiple stow and redeploys.
Afterburner - good for upwind and free ride, good wind range, not the best for stow and redeploy, long lines, its quite a lot of material, freerides ok, not great value for money.
Frigate v2 - good upwind, good free ride, good stow and redeploy, good wind range, free rides nice, fast, reasonable price point.

The Frigate v2 just ticks more boxes and delivers well in all areas. It may not be the absolute best in every category compared to the others but it delivers to a high enough level in all areas that not much is left on the table.

Nice summary, and lets face it, corresponds with most users needs. Not 100 percent of the market - but bloody close to it.

Look I need to add some moderation and balance to the my obvious rants. There is no denying ozone’s quality of build and how easily they fly / stay in the air. The frigate whilst of decent quality - seems “heavier” to me comparing say the 4.3 and 4.5 … harder to tell with the 3.6/3.5 comparison. Frigate seems harder to keep in the air in lighter winds (you ar having to adjust the angle of attach with your wrist) and defintely harder to relaunch when the leading edge has water on it. Also the bar length on the 4.5 hasn’t been thought through - it’s def too long. There is a hard to describe “refinement” with the ozone PRV2.

But everything else I’ve pointed out (and others) is true and ultimately the frigate overall is a much better choice in the areas that count, especially for those of us who are well into our para journey. Ozone to me have missed a trick here - will probably sell a truck load though to the mass market.

Ash, how would you compare the Frigate V2 vs. the Hatch V2? It seems you liked both of them. They appear to be targeting a similar all around riding style.

The difference after all the testing is I bought two Frigate v2s.

and why the frigate after testing those three?

Beginner to immediate (70%) needs,
Good bar pressure to have something to balance against when waiting for a gust.
Very good light wind flight characteristics for keeping the wing in the air while trying to balance waiting for a gust.
Very good light wind flight characteristics so that when the apparent wind is removed in a jibe the wing is still easy to fly to recovery.
Very easy accessible and strong pump of the water without losing control when the apparent wind drops between pumps.
Very good accessible upwind so that when they do get up on foil they can make the most of it and get up wind.
Good depower control without losing steering and control to be able to climb on the board and stand along with controlling gust once overpowered on foil.
Good leading edge, bar and lines colour coding.

Ash, how would you compare the Frigate V2 vs. the Hatch V2? It seems you liked both of them. They appear to be targeting a similar all around riding style.

I would say the Hatch V2 is like a more rounded Pocket Rocket V2 and that was how I reviewed it as a bit of a mix of a Pocket Rocket v2 and a PowerPack - decent capability in all areas and it stows and redeploys nice with shorter lines.
The Frigate V2 takes that a few steps further with it's wind range, speed and the two connections of lines to the bar - which definitely reduces tangles.
The Frigate V2 is definitely a tiny bit more technical to fly but it doesn't take that long to learn the slightly different bar handling - mostly keeping a bit of rear line tension and just understanding the way a kite works in the wind window.

3.5m and 2.5m .... replacing powerpacks in 3.6m, 3.0m and 2.4m. The crazy part is two wings vs three but more wind range with just two Frigates.

To get everything in perspective: What do weight Meonash that you need an 2.5 Frigate?
The 4.5 Frigate V2 that I demoed had quite an overlap with my 3.5Quest and being 94kg I easily use that up to 30 knots. I have a 3m quest but so far not needed it yet so wonder in what conditions you need an 2.5Frigate.

How does the wind range compare with inflatables? (At least on the F-One website, they are specced to have more range than their own Strike wings!)

…. cheers for that - given that the PRV2 already has been dumbed down moving towards the power pack end of the spectrum the hatch definitely sounds like something I would not consider.

Can you explain why you hate the Hatch v1? IMO the Hatch v1 (4.3m) is better than the PRv1 because more responsive steering, better packability, upwind almost equal and most important: the wet lines don't tend to stick together while redeploying! The only negative thing I experience is the flapping tips when you get overpowered.

Well each to their own I suppose. Maybe the packdown I could agree with and the sticky lines but found the bridle to be poorly tuned, canopy punchy and stable early on into its top third range and way to low aspect from my liking. It didn’t touch the PR for going upwind - not even in the same league to be considered as such. But hey as I said each person has their own conclusions, not doubting that’s what you felt. Like the PR V2 a lot of hype and little substance to back those claims.
