Yeah definitely feeling a bit sharky here in Perth! An absolutely brutal shark attack a week or 2 ago. Big GW came in and grabbed a guy swimming 15m from shore and thrashed him all about in front of a crowded beach of onlookers. No remains recovered either so it definitely wasn’t an “investigative” bite.


Then yesterday a whale carcass washed up right in the middle of the Perth down wind run. Check out this big boy playing in the shorebreak

Perth has also had the ex boss of the Fisheries dept say the govt is lying about GW numbers to play it down lots.


pretty simple math to me.


Ban shark fishing
Allow boats to attract them in for tourists
More folks getting in the water at the beach.
Result? Duh

we can control the first two but choose not to.

this is why i prefer to ride above the water, not in it. banned sports: kiting/swimming/surfing.

If i fall in, 5-10 seconds of thrashing to get back on board, 10 seconds to get back on foil to safety , the way i figure - its like only 10% of my session is exposed to the perils of nature

banning shark fishing close to, or from, shore makes sense to me. it's obviously bringing in the sharks closer to the people and having those steel-like lines out there presents a problem to both those in the water and boats going by.

sorry I refered to them stopping g commercial fishing for sharks years ago so now numbers are higher
