Yesterday we had consistent NE 18-20 knots for five hours at Golden Beach, Caloundra. A few hours on 75L mid length Sunova Carver, 4.3 PR, smallest foil in the quiver. Had a blast. Plenty of locals out on the water enjoying the wind energy, which was duly reflected in their smiles as they came off the water. After several rest breaks and something to eat here and there, the ebbing tide beginning to show the shallow sandbanks. Most of the usual suspects had been and gone. Four...ish PM time to call it a day, been there since eleven thirty anti meridian. Gassed out, but still high on parawinging. A thought occurred as I placed my gear on the grass. Could i use my thirty eight litre sinker board with my 4.3 PR?? What is there to lose if one tries? A quick unbolting of the foil, change board, and get back out. Half an hour of failed attempts, three walks of shame! And then...OMG.
Being on foil with a 38 litre board, fully powered in 18 to 20 knots is seriously sublime! It is another level of pure adrenaline rush. Fast, nimble, agile, can it get any more addictive!?! OMG!!
