It was a Tall one. The view will forever be a first. Up so high. Wing slightly lufting at the apex of my launch. The fone 1480 chucked me heftly off the 2ft roller I sprung into a toeside rally off of.
Aiming downwind slightly, the foil behaving wildly compared to my duotone low aspect carbon, I just kept going up. The propeller like tweak of the ha foil felt amazing. I liked the new feel. A lightbulb went off to try a forward roll but I wouldnt get there next.
there was a slight lag in the ha's added width in the rally. I had trouble getting it back to the " sweet spot" and I landed hard on the foil. Stomped it. Absolutely annihilated my Landing. A loud , and I mean LOUD clap resonated when the foil created an air pocket landing on the waters surface. It literally sounded like a thunder clap. I thought it was cool at first NOT!. But I also heard some other strange noises and the feel was off. Already having parted one rig to the bottom of the sea, " No, no, no, no, no, no, NOT AGAIN!?" Uncontrolledly came out of my mouth. I chucked the 6m strike wing away and got in the water asap, Just.In . TIME!!! the mast was hanging by a thread, a second later and Ida been free diving like a freak. Just sharing a story, not interested in a warranty as this board has flown far and high for a good year, she high mileage. Repair bay #1 open for servicing. One thing that I did notice was the glass around the foil tracks WAS DRY. Strange. Wetter is better. My single fin boxes on Me longboards can move and shave rocks and they're fine. We'll see how my work holds up against the ol' thunderclap ladingings, as much as I will try to avoid them, I AM LEARNING. And **** happens. Go big, break hard. I dropped $1500 bucks they next day and gone from 75L to 60L f one , am pretty excited for the new challenge. Now for the repair. MY WAY ??????.
and uhhh Naish if you're looking for a research and development team member, I run over 800 lobster traps a week and I am also an arborist on the side for fun. Basically if you can't tell, Im a freak and this is my second destructive act to my equipment within a month. I also skateboard inbetween all this , am a virgo and I enjoy the water a lot. ??

Ohhh yes it happened quick. Not even the 3rd time ridden. Fone said they were impressed and gave me a new mast head ????????. It bent because the resin-less foil tracks on the hover 75L failed. Dry glass is funny. Why would you put glue all around them? Oh China..shame

I wouldnt jump with the 1480 Phantom, the forces on it when landing are very large (as you found out), I snapped a plane of the mast with a failed landing once, and have another which is starting to crack along the mast aswell after months of flaka attempts (which is replacable under warranty). I decided to no longer jump the 1480 and stick with my 940 for that. Way softer on the landings.

Where are the consumer warning on these products!? Absolutely ZERO issues with my duotone carbon 1600. I will admit less surface area = less force on landing. Understandably, I have a relatively saturated background in design and build fabrication industry, ISO KGS, ASME, BEST PRACTICES, etc..etc... Front end 3d design and computer deflection matricies (12 pages of hand proven calculations to make sure the cpu was right) vacuum chambers fir sterile microchip construction, pressure vessiles and wind tower nacille mount necks. I GET IT. This sport is so young, it's infancy. We are ALL learning to walk both manufacturers and riders. There is going to be great batches of equipment and there will be BAD BATCHES, most likely now in the beginning phases. This is the cost of reality versus computer engineering. This is the reality of our real world. And yea, sometimes rifiling through 12 pages of hand calculations of the modulous of elasticity // 3d deflection I would find a GRAVE ERROR.but it was the computer and not me. So you'd think the hand calcs, the human being is just exhibiting CHE (common human error) but u start from page one re figuring all these little quirky algebraic slider puzzles into the same result at page # 12 or maybe 14 now because you double checked a few key figures. Things happen, we adapt and move on. But DAMN! How am I not supposed to launch this 1480 when it kicks so good and is the bee's knees in the swell!?!? In my opinion, I shouldn't have to limit myself to something that may be further engineered into a more lasting future. Just my 2cents. But I get it, I jump 20 stairs on my skateboard and Inland wrong, the plank will break, which is also why I ride more expensive santa cruz vx decks with fiberglass reinforcement on the base and deck... Idk but one thing is for sure... Inlove and I mean LOVE THIS BLLOOODDDY SPOOORRTTTT!

There's a fine line. I found out the $$$ way as well when I use to jump a 1800. Never ripped a box but mast(s) we're snapped both Carbon and Aluminum. Now the 1240 is the highest I'll jump.
Reminds me so much of the early windsurf days, so many broken mast and boards..all were unbelievably light. Unbelievably !!! There's only so much we can do w carbon, resin and foam.
When you get near a 1000 jumps might be time to rotate your chum to a beginner who's not jumping. The fact you rolled the base plate speaks to the strength of the box. Btw.that creepy sound you heard, I've heard it twice and both times I had failure.
