I know this has been discussed prior, but this popped up recently and it is one of the better explained examples I have seen to get the stink bug happening....

Yeah good, I tend to spend longer on my knees with the wing over my head building some speed first and then I step up with the best gust I can see coming, the worst is when a gust comes and just as you are up the wind shuts out on you and you are left struggling to find something for the wing to pull and then it's rinse and repeat

Thanks for the find.
Tried it today instead of my regular Stinkbug start and it works great esp for board that sinks or have tails that sink like my GoFoils 60L.

One big advantage is when the wind drop or going to the wind line, you can just stay prone and it get you moving across the wind without having to spend any energy.

The regular one you climb on the side of the board.
This one you climb from the back of the board and pull yourself up from the back of the board.

Go back to the original thread and look at my "sniper" version, much easier. I've not climbed onto my 85 or 65L boards in over a year. Quicker too, especially if there's waves around.

Hey Mike
Have read your technique in the original thread. Just curious, did you develop this idea or have you seen it being done elsewhere with and can post a video. Can you still get going in light wind and do you need the front strap?

I developed it myself to get going in on shore close period waves but use it always now, from light wind up. No front strap needed just takes some time to find the balance points for your frontk elbow and cocked leg knee then grab back handle, pull in and lever up off downwind wing tip.

Lol don't even try..
I've heard some wacky methods to get on foil:

- A Euro racer always starts sitting and stands only when on foil. - surf stance into displacement the. knees, standing (my method)

- sinker er' down in the straps and take off in gust.
Even have seen this

End of the day. Use whatever gets you on foil comfortably and easily.

I honestly think their guides are better than 9/10 videos on YouTube. Simple, to the point and they're riding barges akin to people needing these tutorials (caveat sinker video).

I use to stinkbug from the side of the board and tried from the back yesterday.
It is MUCH easier.
