I've just bought 19mm Axis aluminium mast. And I noticed water gets inside the mast even if there are plastic plugs on each side. Has anyone else had this problem?
On my Gong mast with similar plugs I always got water until I pulled the plugs and applied thick lanolin grease. Now I get absolutely zero water intrusion.
Mind had water get past the plugs, really annoying and I thought a corrosion risk. I ended up drilling a hole in plug to drain water then filling with PU foam. it's a basic thing that should be sorted straight from manufacture. All they need to do is seal it properly.
I also had water in my Axis aluminium mast. A good technique I used to get the water out is to lean it up vertically against an oil heater - as the air inside the mast expands it forces the water out. I had to cool and reheat a few times to get all the water out. When dry I just filled both ends with silicone. The center slot is quite deep and hard to fill with silicone so I just cut a piece of foam, put some silicone on it and squished it down into the slot leaving it there permanently.
I am more concerned of corrosion.
