Hi ya
Ive been doing the Wing waterstart for a while and get asked about it a lot so made a video -

www.instagram.com/reel/DFZkImBIJwh/?igsh=OWNycHVsN2YyOTAy

I used to need to be overpowered on my old 65L square shape board but with the longer narrower 55L Skybrid I find I can waterstart no problem with the right power for waveriding on 4.5,3.5 & 3m wings.
Give it a go it's a great tool to have if you catch weed or drop in water when it's windy

Pretty slick! Anyone doing it without straps or does that make it a no go?

I tried a few times but didn't really make it. Is it worth practizing for people on boards of a volume arond bodyweight?

Don't think you could keep board in position without front strap

I've never done it on my 85L but if I'm on that board I'm underpowered

Here's a video of the move from a different perspective. This is on a ~0.8 sinker (60L board, 75kg rider suited-up), and it took a 30+ knots gust and a 5.5m2 wing. If you try this move, take care of your wing tips !! That's the only thing that holds me back from using it more often.
Enjoy,
-Stuart

That PFD and wetsuit flotation is pulling a lot of weight in that maneuver. I'd pay good money to to see you do the same in board shorts and a t-shirt. Without that flotation with your feet on the board and your hands in the air the water level would be at your eyeballs!

I hear ya, but I never ride without a life preserver these days. I haven't been so careful all my life, but now I've got kids. Plus, it's a cool manuever in the right circumstances, however you pull it off.
Ride safe, friend!

Here we go, in boardshorts and t-shirt. It's much easier than you guys think, given the board is not too wide / too floaty.

If you can sink the tail of the board a bit (which allows you to get your weight over the board) it becomes super similar to a light wind windsurfing waterstart.

Looks like a lot easier with the good ol mastfoot
When I ever get the need to add straps to my wingboard I,m gonna give this a go as well.
