Looks like for the larger sizes so as not to increase wingspan, what next?

Good idea to reduce wingspan but no way they deserve to receive a patent .Not that much of an innovation and we don't need these to hold back the sport. I would imagine the other kite brands will try to block it

Pretty sure Duotone have patented the boom...

F-one have always been pouring a lot of money into R&D unlike most other brands that copy competition and splash their cash in marketing.

If this works, good on them for getting off the beaten tracks and gain a competitive advantage over those who just copy.

A patent doesn't mean others can't use the tech... if they want it they just have to pay for it. Same thing with Wipika who was holding the patent for "leading edge inflatable " kites...

Marketing hype, since they just won the GWS event.
Likely, nobody there with a slick. no way can they enforce a patent for struts. Ridiculous

Note that they do not have a patent, they just applied for one ("patent pending").

"Patent pending" (sometimes abbreviated by "pat. pend." or "pat. pending") or "patent applied for" are legal designations or expressions that can be used in relation to a product or process once a patent application for the product or process has been filed, but prior to the patent being issued or the application abandoned.

A patent needs to be novel and not obvious to one who is knowledgeable about the field. Just because a patent gets applied for doesn't mean it gets grated, and just because it gets granted doesn't mean it cant be overturned in court.

Given that all brands pretty much have struts anyway prior to their claimed patent process, it will not go through as it is not an innovation, it is borrowed from kiting as with 99.9% of the technology.

I don't think Duotone are still "patenting" their boom either as they no longer speak about it in their marketing. I guess their two latest wings have struts .

It is an interesting thought having extra struts, but one of the down sides is definitely going to be weight. Even reducing a small amount of LE can not compensate for added struts. Way more seams, dacron and latex. As much as I have to admit it, a batten here would be more advantageous imo.

I agree. ridiculous. There were rider with slick wing in the events. not that provides any evidence on which wing is better.

Nice footage on YouTube:

There is an interview with Klaas Voget from Duotone and also Paula Novotn, Marcela Witt, Francesco Cappuzzo.

Didn't Gong have a wing with sleeves for battens to be inserted after pumped up? Wouldn't these have a similar function as struts?
