Hi
I've been riding a 12m 2009 Naish-Cult. Its a perfect kite but in WA condition it is a little too big (I'm 82 kg + PFD + Helmet + Wet suite).
I want to get a 9m kite and I want it to be a fast kite as I'm progressing in jumping and free style.

I'm down to 3 choices: SS Fuel 09/North Vegas 09/Naish Torch 09.

Will you please rate each one of them from 0 to 10 in your opinion and if its possible bring some reasons for not recommending the other ones.

Average Joe is correct, there aren't anymore 9m Vegas's left.

I can't comment on the Naish Torch, as I've never ridden one, but I have ridden both the Fuel and the Vegas.

First of all, they are both sweet sweet kites. They are beautiful unhooked, and the kiteloops are fantastic.

If you're coming from a bowkite, I'd recommend the Vegas, as it will be an easier transition as the Vegas isn't a true "C" kite. You'll find it easier to ride than the Fuel.

You can come down to Safety Bay and demo our 10m Vegas anytime, if you want to see what they feel like.

I own a 10m 09 Torch and absolutely love it (I did swap back to the shift system depower strap rather than use the smartloop depower....personal preference). I know that the 10m are sold out (some shops might have stock) and there was 1 9m left last I heard (again some shops may have stock). It turns really quickly, is a dream unhooked, has plenty of power and with the smart loop plenty of bar throw depower.

I have ridden a 9m 08 Vegas but with the changes they made to the 09 i don't think i could really comment.

Haven't ridden a fuel but I intend to give one a try,

i completely second that. i have torch 09 12m and 8m they are the best kites i have ever ridden. they are super fast when you wwant them to be but are also super stable and dont move when unhooking. through the kiteloops they are better than any other kite i have ever used. they rip you oout the sky then rocket back up above your head for a nice and soft landing. i was out today on the 8m today in about 25-27 knots and was boosting kiteloops about 10-14 meters and was landing super soft but also getting the kite close to level with me on some of them. i have also ridden the fuel 7m and it is also a sick kite but not as good as the torch! i think there is only one 12m, one 8m and a second hand 9m left in australia but i am not 100 percent on this.

definitly try the torch to see if u like it.

arent slower kites better for jumping?
I have a 9m 2008 vegas. wicked for everything. sweet unhooked pop, no effort at all needed, plenty of depower, safe, boosts are big, VERY quick kite. Mate has a 09 Torch 10m. says its best kite his had. unhooks, boost with ease not as fast as vegas tho. more steady unhooked.

why a c kite? Aren't there bow/ sle's out there that will do the same thing? I have noticed there is a bit of a movement back to c's. I've never tried one but would like to. I just thought if you wanted a quicker kite you could always go a fast bow/sle like a 9m rev, furia, edge, eh rhipper, nemisis ?? will be heaps quicker than a 12 cult and wouldn't a 9m sle have more grunt and a wider wind range than a c? (genuine question..as I've said, never flown a c kite)

Unfortunately while the marketing may claim all the benefits from both bow/sle and from c kites, It is not possible!

Here is a previous discussion on the topic.....

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=44615&SearchTerms=bow,vs,c

Give one of the new C-Kite a go, you may be pleasantly surprised!
However is you just want to go out and mow the grass/boost some airs don't bother, you won't really see the benefits.

c kites feel way better at the bar. try my catapult hawks out they are insane kites, better than 09 torches for sure. torches seems to be going backwards imo.

only flown a 11m fuel and it was pretty good but heavy bar in the turns.

havnt flown 09 vegas yet though.

From my understanding we have:
2.5 votes for Torch
2.5 votes for Vegas
0.5 vote for Fuel

I was hoping to hear more about Fuel and I knew about the high maintenance trim line of it! (Maybe I'm wrong)

from what i'm reading,

You can't get a 9m 09 Vegas....sold out
You may be able to get a second hand 9m 09 Torch
You can get a 9m Fuel.
Or you wait till the 2010's come out

Can't comment on 09 Vegas, but have an 08 Vegas 10 which I bought on an end of season special, after not having C-kites for a few years and couldn't believe how good it is. In spite of having an 08 and 09 hybrids, the Vegas is my favourite, it's a super kite and gives up nothing to any hybrid or Bow I know of it.

My vote is for Vegas!

You read the whole thing see if you can decide?

I guess its not easy to pick one in three when all of them are the best kites in the market.

Can some one help me choose (Don't worry about the sold out, as soon as you show the money they will send you the kite from one of their stores in Mars)

I advise you to buy a C-KIte

Seriously just get a fuel.....

I usually ride a Bow/HYbrid ( Switchblades ) but have two Fuels as well......they are awesome kites for looping and unhooking...but are pigs when the wind is gusty as most C's are..... Cant comment on the other kites mentioned. but the Fuel has a waranted reputation for quality and performance......

If you are coming from a Bow/HYbrid it may take a few sessions to dial it in as the feeling of the kite pull is quite different both at water level and when boosting...If you are generally riding in consistent seabreezes I think you will love the feeling of the Fuel / C-kite.

good luck fun times await

Simple, the fuel delivers constant pull giving you good pop and kiteloops are insane.

Biggest difference with C is that the bar is easier to pass as the kite does not drift taking up slack after popping. This is because it has no bridles.

If you like wake style then C kite is way to go. Fuel as I am biased

Re:Torch stock, i'm not talking about a store, i'm talking about Windgenuity the importer of Naish and coincidently North as well.

I friend wanted to get a 10m Torch, he was told there were none left in Oz and that Naish requires large orders to be made with a lead time of 3 months. If you were the distributor and given it is now the middle of Feb would you be placing a large order of stock that will be superseded come Sep/Oct?

North maybe different I am not sure.

You don't have to be a pro to know what you like in a kite, just try it.....you may not even like riding a C-kite, $2000 is a fair bit of coin to be gambling with??

I was hoping to hear more about Fuel

U wanted some more info on the Slingshot?

I really enjoyed its less bar pressure and the 'light' & effortless feel of the kite. very smooth and quick turning.
I have ridden both the Slingshot&Torch - specifically to test the difference between the power, quality & performance. I specifically did this as, like you, I was progressing onto more freestyle/unhooked manouvers & these two kites are the major world-wide competitors in the arena of freestyle tricks.

In comparisson to the Torch, the Slingshot feels as though it lacks a lot of power Only once you've ridden the Torch, you'll know exactly what I am talking about. The Torch is so stable yet so powerful.
The Torch has a real unique overall 'quality feel'... power,quality&performance-wise.

I recommend the TORCH '09. 100%. You won't be dissapointed!

if your JUST progressing into JUMPING (as you first mentioned) then dare i say flat 3's are a loooooooooong way off yet.

so forking out $2g for a dedicated freestyle c-kite cause the lines stay slack for half a second longer when passing the bar might be overshooting your current needs/skill level by say three years....??????

I don't see any problem with getting a C kite now in anticipation of pulling flat 3's in the future.

I ride both types of kite; a 7 meter Ozone with a surfboard when it is wavey, and a ten meter Torch when it is flat and not windy, and I am feeling like getting rinsed doing freestyle stuff.

The Ozone is nice, but the Torch has better or snappier performance, and is therefore good for freestyle.

Basics: C kites turn from the corners, flat kites turn from the middle. Therefore, it's easier to loop a C kite - it literally turns on its wingtips (unless you have a crappy old one).

Bottom line: you can do tricks on a C kite with the bar pushed out against the stopper and it will still pull you. Means you can do powered tricks more easily one handed. You can use the other hand to hold up your shorts. On a flat kite, you have to pull in on the bar more for power.

The downside; if it's really gusty where you normally kite, then you'll find a C kite a bit of a handful to begin with, even the Torch with its 5th-line nice-ness.

I'd say nice things about a Torch forever - they are really usable, powerful responsive kites... I've had a 7, 9 and a ten. I've tried Slingshots, and North C kites. Slingy was OK. North I found impossible, but could just be me.....

A lot of people are commenting about their particular 'favourite' or what they recommend without having demo'd the competitor brand. Don't take a biased opinion.
Make sure you get experiencial & well-balanced knowledge.

As I mentioned previously: TORCH '09 wins hands down
