Does anyone remember the dimensions (length, width, volume) of the old Bombora Tri-fin?

Just curious.

Regards,
Harrow.

can remember riding mine at north point once with the old kanga fin cavitating and flexing around before completely poping out of that crappy plastic fin box.

can't believe we used to jump the buggers...

from memory they were 9' long and probably 200 litres

I replaced the Kangacock with a 'footy' fin. (I think the later models came with a 'sock' fin). Fixed the whole spin out thing, but then ended up catching half the seaweed in Botany Bay!

I have a lot of fond memories of my tri-fin, being my first short board. I'd even buy one again if I could find one. Anyone want to get rid of one?

I hope you dont actually want to sail it again
Why not buy a board with 15 more years of development put into it instead of 100kg of plastic and a pancake resembling fin.
If you do still want one Ive seen plenty on ebay, and strangely enough some people bid on them too!!!

Harrow,
Forget the Tri-Fin. It was a reasonable board in 1983 but there have been a lot of advances made since then. It's time for you to move on. Try some new gear from a friend or on a demo day or just rent for a couple of hours. After that you won't be longing for your tri-fin again

From memory,

Board was 8'9" -~ 265 by 22 1/2" - 57 cm with a volume around 90 litres.

A fundamentally good shape. Rails were too soft and too much volume up front with **** fins but what the heck. Back then, there were no good fins. Sails with more than 1 batten - rare. Mylar was the next best thing, then kevlar. RAF sails were just starting to emerge.

I had an old fibreglass board - same shape as the bombora from the "do it standing up" windsurfing company - apparently the same co. as bombora.

My first short board - I remember it with joy.!!

My how things have changed - we are no all short and fat - hard to buy a board less than 60 cm wide these days. How long till we go back to needle nose (no nose) boards with all the volume sitting in the tail???

Greenleader,

how right you are - my memories would be shattered - which is why I would never try such a foolish thing.

Moving from a 12 foot 21 kg lump to something 8'9" was a great feeling!

Thanks NorthBoy.

I knew it was somewhere near 115 litres.

You've either got a good memory, or some old copies of Freesail under your bed!

(Or you've just been under the house with a tape measure.)

The pages of Northboy's mags are stuck together.
Especially the ones with pics of men in pink wetsuits.

Qwerty I still have the new toy under the house. Its a lovely pink one complete with sock fin.It was my first wave board and had a lovely rope uni. Gee they were the days.Maybe we should hit Mark Paul up to lend a few of his(he has a couple under his house) and go for a session. Ive still got the 6m2 bombora sail which has started to delaminate. ** I just looked under the house and found some relics from 20 years ago.We need to have a retro wave day???

A one design retro wave classic on new toy's. Where do i enter? Can i have a composite Dacron/Mylar powerhead as well? We would only need 6 to have heats in a Retro Classic.

Donk, I'll buy it off you. But I figured you'll want to keep it.
Bring it to the nationals. If you can win on that then you'll have some bragging rights.

What else have you got under there?
I've got an old Long Reef Express glass board.

Stay off that hand-trolley Northboy!
