A kitesurfer walks into a shop. He has not kiteboarded for 6 years due to work and marital commitments. He wishes to get a new board , as he still has his old kites. The salesman shows him the latest greatest double concave 6'2' thruster tufflite monster. "How much is that" he asks. Its on pre season special at $1000-00 says the salesman. Its what everyones riding this season. Looks pretty big to me for a kiteboard, says the customer. Can I get huge airs on this. No, these boards are not for jumping. If you break it on jumping, you will lose the warrantee. The customer is astonished and shocked. " A kiteboard that doesnt jump, I thought thats what kiteboarding was all about.BIG FAT Air. "No , says the salesman. Where have you been? Jumping a kiteboard is totally uncool. Go to any of the beaches, you will not see anyone doing big jumps- totally uncool. Surfing is cool. We even get surfers to judge our contests these days. The customer says. Surfers dont get air. They get excited if they pull off a single back loop. Ive seen a video of Laird doing a double, but that was at the edge of a Jaws monster. What happened to the 30 ft triple back loop with a board off. NO -very uncool. The surfers and wakeboarders say so.
These boards over here are more your style. They are designed for low altitude jumps and tricks, you know, a bit like wakeboarding, but make sure you dont jump high because the other riders will think you're uncool and quite mad. No says the customer. I want a board to ride waves and jump. After some thought the salesman says- I have just the board for you and shows him the latest range of windsurfers.

LouD you sad little man sounds like you are are a fashion victim. Get a surfboard with 3 layers of 6oz (old polyester windsurfer construction) ride waves jump and have fun. Bugger anyone else. Get over it - however board offs are sad.

How profound !!!!!
You can actually jump into the sky with these kites ?
I was wondering about that, why would any one kite surf , if you can rip and slash far better on a windsurfer.
Seem like all these guys on heavily reiforced surf boards are fashion victims.

hahaha
Good punchline Lou.
The poleys are laughing.

Hmmmm,
Surfboards versus twin-tips in the waves.
It's an old chestnut of a debate.
Well, a couple of seasons old anyway. hehe.

I'm sure the twin-tip could be radically improved for wavekiting but the industry isn't too interested.
It has another agenda....

To convince surfers that they should love fresh onshore wind,
and seeing they already own a board....
all they need is a kite to cross-over for the afternoon kiting sess.

It's a crafty plan but will it succeed ??????

i hope not; it doesnt take many kites to crowd a lineup, i reckon we should be discouraging surfers from taking up kiting
although the ones i have tried to teach have packed it in as soon as they realise its a lot harder than it looks

kiting has completed my love of the ocean - now I can enjoy the ocean on days when I couldn't surf or days when I was sitting in the onshore slop just happy to be out there. Kiting is way easier to learn than surfing and requires way less fitness and dedication - I would hate to have to learn to surf now. When I learned to surf as a teenager, it took many months before I was up and riding on a 'clean' wave on a surfboard. In fact in my first session in 4ft surf I didn't even get out the back whereas I was up and riding on a kite (c-kite) within about 5 sessions.
