Hi,
thought I'd start a different thread as i am getting waaaayyy too much speed on my landings. I'm also not seeming to get much hang time at the apex??

I am pretty lit with a 13m (in 20-23 kts) mid-aspect most times so perhaps that is most of the prob? Maybe we need an emoticon with eyelids peeling back here?

I seem to be getting better at timing my jumps and am trying to send the kite up - then release the edge and mainly let the kite pull me up (ie not trying to jump too much/too early with my legs like I used to). At this stage i have been trying variously to bring the kite around back towards the edge of the window (diving a little) both, sooner and later, after the initial boost but get much the same results. I think I am doing this too early though as I am absolutely rocketing down to the water (often a fair bit downwind).

I land or at least bum/backsplash, if too fast, then keep on truckin most of the time but my knees (and eyes from spray) are starting to complain.

Any suggestions would be super cool.

Cheers

You are obviously loosing your edge that's why you don't get so much air and why you get alot speed just downwind. Just practice keeping your edge in the final stage when your throw the kite back up over your head and you should be fine

This was happening to to me and it came down to not popping enough before releasing the edge and releasing the edge too soon. Hold your edge until you feel the kite pulling and then at the last second jam your back foot in to load up the lines and then release.

I used to this really well too, but it turned out I was redirecting the kite too much so that instead of lifting me up, if lifted me up and fowards, i called it the superman headplant...keep the kite above you, and yes, like the others said edge edge edge.

hey mate, got a question for you? how much do you weigh? if your holding a 13m kite in 20 to 23kn and your only a 80kg rider the problem could be your overpowered hence why you cant maintain your edge when you send the kite, being overpowered coupled with chop makes it very hard to time everything right. Even so try flying the kite to 12.30, then when you feel like your getting lifted direct the kite to 12.00 this will give you loft, as soon as you start descending pull on the front hand to start diving the kite for a soft landing, takes a bit to figure out the timing of everything but good luck happy kiting, hope this helps.

Yep,
I think the 13 in chop (I'm 80ish kgs on a 136 board) is pretty full and i have also been bringing the kite back from 12 into the window too agressively also.

Basically i think I need to tweak all of the above to get a bit more timing/control happening over the power. Boy i do love rockin upwind lit up while everybody else is eeking along though.

ta for advice

hmm the guys seemed to have missed this point:
the jump should start with the kite sheeted out - allowing you to redirect it upward without it ripping you off your edge.
As the kite is starting to rocket towards 12 keep pulling in until you have full power. The kite should be reaching 12 at the point you have fully pulled in the bar.
If you do this, you will be yanked upward, not forward.

edging hard is a given 8)

Cheers robbo,

that was the ticket allright.

Mistakenly I have been pulling on the power leading into the jump to get maximum oomph (and of course the kite flies back in the window) so when trying to send it up and release I have been screaming down wind.

Tried letting out the bar before I was sending it and then pulling in slightly after or as popping it - Hey Presto - going up; 4th floor ladies lingerie!! Straight up then waited till nearly at apex before bring kite back around. All good and much more controlled. Tops feeling and mega height with less drama

Pity the wind died on me after on 2 jumps on Tues night. Bizarre conditions.

Later that night I found myself reading a Thomas the tank book to my 4 yr old and in the coastal background behind Oliver (the great western engine) I noticed a couple of sailboats and couldn't help but think mmmm they're arent keeled over too much so maybe get the 15.5 Flow out...

My young lad just doesn't understand why I drift off mid story with a far away look in my eyes

Hey Robbo and all,
had good winds last night and had heaps of success with the jumps. Still had some major stacks but had the confidence (and some ability) to push higher and higher! Probably went half as high again to previous efforts!

Awesome fun last night still got the idiot grin today

sssutto - I'm certainly working on it. Unfortunately mum is an "I really don't like the wind and sand blowing at me" type. Sigghh... good thing she is a tops mum (yeh and wifey). Always room for improvement though, I am trying so hard to get her to just hang on to a 9m on the beach one day... surely she will feel the addiction after that.

Cheers all
