Toooooooooo true!!!

We need to know, your weight, where you intend to learn and where you want your sailing to go...

Ideally, you will get a wide beginner board, such a a Startboard Start or and Exocet Cruiser (whichever marketing takes your fancy), and a nice light bieginner rig to go on top, maybe with a sail around 4 m. Very easy to hire this kind of kit, or even get a lesson (best option). Get a feel for the gear, learn what suits you and what you like.

There are heaps of people on this forum that are experienced at teaching, and pretty well everyone is willing to (try stopping us) give advice.

Check my reply in the other thread.
Kallaroo makes it a bit hard cos u are a long way from the river, which is ideal learnign environment, but ring 2ND Wind in Attadale re: a lesson

Hey mate,

You can do it as cheaply or expensively as you like. Your options are:
1) Expensive:
Buy a Starboard Go or Start, with all the sails, masts, booms and stuff brand new for something probably approaching $3000.
2) Cheap: Go down to the local tip shop, pick up a mismatched board, sail, boom and mast for less than $100.

The middle road is probably the best, buy some windsurfing gear secondhand through either this site, the trading post or ebay. If you're a total beginner then you'd probably want something nice and stable and floaty, probably around 130-150 litres or so. You might be able to pick up an old floaty board pretty cheaply.

Then you've got to find a mast, boom and sail, at your stage I'd probably get a wave sail around the 4.5 metre mark. Being from WA you might be able to score a bargain here.

All up to get up and running with a single sail and board, you're probably looking at around $500, but again this is dependant on how old you want to go.
I started with $200, which got me a board, rig and two sails, but this was a really ancient setup and I eventually took it down to the tip once I'd figured out the basics and gotten a decent intermediate setup.

1st - get your folks to shout you a lesson

2nd - think about other gear.

You can have the board and boom - gratis.

Is there someone out there that can find an oldish sail and mast they no longer need in the shed, that would be grouse I can chuck in an extension and base, and you'll be on the water (hopefully, with 450 or near 450 bucks still in your sky-rocket to spend on kit later)

Pugsy is about 2 times kitesurfin in age and in Perth, just north of the schity.

Yep, you do need a sail and a mast... also a harness... Did your brother start kiting (anybody ever consider how alike knitting and kiting are)? He may be able to spare a harness...

windsurfing is also pretty hard (but well worth the effort)

and there's no reason why you can't do both sports. but i'd recommend spending your first $450 on the windsurfing gear

wishing you an easy learning path.

Peace

Christ this thread gave me a headache...
Its like listening to Ali G!!!

"i want 2 windsurf HELP"

Does this mean he wants to engrave the word 'HELP' on the ocean by using a windsurfer?
Or is there a fantastic secret wave spot somewhere in WA called 'HELP' that he needs directions too?
Or maybe a windsurfing product called 'HELP' that he needs two of?

I don't see what the problem is. Whats wrong with wanting to do kiting and windsurfing. I like both. I just do windsurfing because my dad got me into it at a young age before kiting was realy that popular.

God fkin damn it..

i think i will start all my posts with something like that..

kid you are so light you don't need a big arse board....
if you can get a lesson it will cut out heaps of frustration..

I reckon at your weight go a board under 70Ls get an evo that would be perfect..
48KG.. get a 62L evo .. they are pretty stable.. and floaty for you.
if you can just put in some more effort you will be lauging. only takes a few weeks to get planing in the straps.. just watch some vids.. people at the beach will help you..

If you get a wave board that is sub 70. you will be able to jump and have fun on that board for a while. making your money go further. also if you can get something kind of new.. liek 2003 onwards..

errr sails... i don't know maybe a 4m.
and then the matching boom, mast , extension. you will also want harness lines. mast bast. harness. fin (should come with board). rope (always helps)

THAT IS WHAT I SAY..

Yeah there was a time when i was about 7 or 8. After i had been windsurfing for 2 or 3 years when kiting first came out. Much 'cooler' thing to do than windsurfing, but the novelty wore off prity quickly. Thats what i thought happend here in SA anyway. It is easier to do well than windsurfing. But i think it's harder to start.
