Hi, I am learning off a low base and looking for someone who can give me some instruction in Perth area. Anyone here do that, or know someone good?

I have my own gear - a Starboard GO and a few sizes of sail. Have got planing a couple of times, but want to find out how to tack without falling off, reach more effectively and and maybe even waterstart. I usually sail at Pelican Point, and tried the shop nearby but they don't have an instructor available at present.

ChrisPer,

I hope someone over there can help you out....I remember the 'learning curb'....stand-fall.....stand-fall....and it wasn't that long ago (2yrs, and it was on a mate's GO!!)

Funny thing is though, you're in a better spot to learn than me, I'm happy to just play in the wind/water, you have the demographics to learn and progress into waves.

I'm sure someone from WA will help you!!! (guys???) they've helped me through this forum...

Thanks guys, the suggestions and websites are good. I have found the Pelican Point crowd friendly enough too, but dunning strangers for lessons because they don't get away fast enough isn't my intention. Really I want to either find one person who would LIKE to help me get the next couple of steps, maybe a good set of lessons on DVD that show the way clearly, or someone I can pay for lessons who really teaches well.

Any suggestions?

Yes, first get yourself a copy of Beginner to Winner
http://www.surfsailaustralia.com.au/showProduct/DVD+and+Video/Windsurfing+-+Instructional/427075/Beginner+to+Winner+DVD to get honed on correct stance, tacking, gybing and waterstart basics.

Then when you want to really tune up your waterstarting technique get The ABCs of Waterstarting
www.surfsailaustralia.com.au/showProduct/DVD+and+Video/Windsurfing+-+Instructional/420092/The+ABC%60S+of+Waterstarting

I have seen both of these DVDs and highly recommend them.

Also go to www.zinio.com
www.zinio.com and register.
Windsurf
www.zinio.com/singles?issn=0958-5508&ns=zuk and Boards
www.zinio.com/singles?issn=0590-7337&ns=zuk are both UK magazines and have a lot of articles on technique for beginners and intermediates. Follow those links and you can browse the archives, including seeing the actual contents pages, and buy the individual mags with the articles you're interested in.

Guy Cribb
www.guycribb.com
Jem Hall
www.jemhall.com/
and Simon Bornhoft
www.windwise.net/
have useful tips and articles on their websites. They are qualified instructors.

If you want to discuss what you see on the DVDs, or any stuff you've read on the web or magazines, post here or send me a PM and we'll go from there.

Once you've got the knowledge and a picture in your head of how the techniques should look, get somebody to come down for an hour or so one day with a video camera. You will then be able to see what needs improvement.

Do your shopping at Windsurfing Perth in Myaree and and talk to Reg. He gives free lessons to customers at Lucky Bay on Sundays.
