Can anybody give me some advice about fitting foot straps to a surfboard, that is a perfect shape and size for kitesurfing.

Cheers

I presume you are doing this to save cash and have an old surfboard you want to use??

Most shapers will sink some plugs for you and add a few layers of glass for extra strength fairly cheaply

ride it on flat water use wax and dirty feet. You will see clearly where the straps need to go for you.
Buy some (shinook?)black inserts for footstraps for windsurfing.
SOS fremantle sells em but who knows where you are from? They have about 5 holes for adjustment... drill/router out the spots and insert them in leaving a bit of clearance on either side.
Mix up some resin with a bit of q-cell and your'e almost away. The secret to make them strong is to drill a some very small holes in the top of them so the resin can get right into the cavity of the insert....
Good luck.

i needed a light wind board/wave board 4 myself and bought a 5'10 standard surfboard off a friend. with a router i made the insert holes for the plastic inlays(approx, 150mm long). secured with epoxy and placed a foot pad and two straps on it. as for positioning of your feet either ride strapless and trace around your feet or go wakeboarding with it and mark it out then. my board goes awesome 4 me but standard surfboards are very weak compared to twintips so be careful on how much presure you put on it
good luck

These guys have put you on the right track. But to be sure they won't pull out, I recommend putting a small sheet of glass over each insert to hold them in. And be sure to sand all parts of your board you want resin or glass to stick to, otherwise it'll simply peel off.

You don't need to buy inserts either; just use some hard plastic and drill holes into it. Use screws (stainless) that tap into the plastic.

the predator straps work well but they are a bit bulky, especially when you are learning to gybe and trying to put your foot in front of the strap.
but they are comfy and easy to get in and out of, and no need to put holes in your stick

Excellent advice boys, i think that will do one final layer of glass once i have set the plugs.

Cheers
