Green light is on so after learning over the past couple of months (thanks team)
I need to make my mind up!
Brand (Naish) no problem with that (done deal) As some of you may know I have borrowed a mates 12 foot Ron House, mainly flat water paddling without a problem.
Without sounding like a tosser,I ride longboards well, dam well! I thinking that a SUP will give me another option when the surf is not on!So I am thinking mainly flat water paddling, living on a canel on the GC,I can see myself paddling after work or when i cant drive ( Not one to break the law)
So do i buy a 11.4 or 11.6? Naish of cause!
I want something that will give a little of both (cake and eat it) Flat water and will be able to surf when i like!

Cheers da mac

Hey Mac,

Both boards rock. I would recommend the 11'4" if you want more surfability, and the 11'6" if stability and speed is more your focus. Possibly also weightmight help you make up your mind. If your <100k then 11'4 will be fine, >100k then think more along the 11'6" line. But remember to put into account, ease of use or surfability.

JB summed it up macca, I'd go the 11'4" for the edge in the surf and to have the best of both flatwater and surf conditions.

On the smaller waves I could only ever catch waves on the 11'6" - turning the board once on a wave I found problematic.

Don't forget the paddle either - get a good carbon paddle to begin with.

Gidday Mac...........Just my thoughts (for whatever they're worth) If your a surfer first, I think you will prefer a more "surf" oriented SUP. I love my surfing, Mal surfer,
I just sold a 10ft SUP & although it surfed OK, I am now useing a more "surf dedicated board"....shorter, lighter. These boards still paddle "ok" if you want to have a flat water paddle, not as good as a longer board but you will still get a workout. Hope this is of some help to you & good surfing

Mac I cut my teeth on a Ron House 12-0 these boards paddle really well in the flat but they also shread in the surf these boards are not pool toys they really perform in the surf . I'm not knocking the Naish but don't discount the Ron. I have seen my mates just rip it apart on the Ron 12-0 and Lairds latest movie "Waterman" you will see him nailing the most narley wave on his backhand on a 12-0 in the Mentawi's just laying back in the pocket.

In just 5 months I've gone from the Ron House 12-0 to his 9-10 quad and I ride it in anything these really are high performance Sup's.

Cheers lads,My mind tells me 11.4,because,i know i will want a loose surfable board!
I've been down that road over the years with my surfing. So the 11.4 is the one!
I grew up on the GC,surfed Bali (every year since i was a pup), Hawaii ( every second year)and my spot is Snapper Rocks,3 to 4 times a week!
I have a very good mate who imports boards from the US ,had a couple of goes on diff, lengths but i really like the Naish!History with manufacturing Kite /Wind and so on!

PS. hows the head Oliver and how did you go with the train to work?

Good on ya Mac62.
I am finding your modesty quite entertaining.
You know we all will probally see you surf one day and you better be as good as you say you are. I am pretty shi _t so you won't have any competition form me. It's only your own lofty ego you may need to live up too, so no pressure really.

I feel it when I laugh and I'm not feeling as queasy now. The past couple of days I've been wearing a straw hat to work so not much of a problem at all. Just looking forward to getting back in the water and practicing some of those kick/pivot turns and how I'm going to cut up my Jimmy Lewis deck pad.

I know it's not a Naish, but I rate my Starboard 11'2" as 60% surf, 40% flat water. I can get better flat water performance using a bigger fin. As an all round board it is pretty good.

I am thinking that in the future I will get a pure flat water board, like the Glide, and get something smaller for surf. I live near the bay and flat water is much more accessible to me.

So, if you're thinking flat water for spare time but you really want to surf then an 11'4" is probably the go. Also, if you change your mind later you can probably sell an 11'4" to another new starter and get a quiver of SUPs.

If you're thinking flat water is really fun and a purpose for SUPing then go for something bigger and get a smaller surf machine later (or vice versa)
