I think you can go quite fast on a larger board if the water is very flat and you your are sailing broad, so the answer really depends on the conditons. I have an i86 and am hoping to get a i122 soonish.

I have a 2008 101 on its maiden voyage i got a 33 even on it since bumped that up to 33.5 the other day, both were with a Koncept 6.6 and a 28cm lessacher Chamelion fin, the 33.5 was very hard work as in the chop it was trying really hard to throw me off

What year 122 do you have. I know the actual volume of the 2008 and 2009 iSonic 122 models are 114litres and 113 litres respectively. the 101 is around 97 litres so possibly a 94 (92litres I think) could give you better top end (windier) range.

That's my 2 cents worth (excluding GST) I know Vando and other iSonic owners will be able to give you some better advice.

My I-sonic 122 w75 is a 2008 model.
I have a Star-Board 2008 product catalogue with lists the 122 as 122 litres. But I don't know if that is the correct volume? Where I sail the condition change alot on the lake and the 122 is perfect. I was thinking of getting a i144 for the really light days and see what speeds it can do.

So far I have only recorded 26.28 Knots on my 122 IS and 25.77 over 10s . That was with a 6.8 Arrows T-Force, Select Eliminator 32 Weed fin. Winds gusting up to about 18-20 Knots I think. Hard to tell. At the moment my largest sail is the VGM 7.5 which I have done 26.08 Knots in about the same wind conditions as above but the water had more chop. I'm looking foward to getting bettter conditions to try and brake 30 Knots!!They are very impressive speeds that you have done.

Bilabog do you have alot of weed where ya sail.
one thing to look at is the fin you are using sometimes going bigger you can actually go faster depending on the conditions particularly with the wider boards

Back in '07 at SP in a NW near the car park on a '08 Futura 122 with Drake/PA 30cm wave fin, Koncept 6.6 2sec peak was just over 39,
Going on that experience it should do over 40 in a SW, ie flater water/better angle. A 28 sweptback speed fin would make the task easier though..

Spotty I have the 08 Futura and all I can say is ... I gots another ten knots to get outa that lass!! Love the board and stoked to hear that it has such a high end. Next time it's flat and windy I'm going to do a compare and contrast with the 93L.

What is your body build? I am 1.76cm for 80 kg! Are you a big guy?

I have myself the 86iSo and done only 33.5 on a 6.7 and 26.5cm! The board feels big for me, and does not seem to free itself (maybe the fin)I never really used that board for speed, it is more like light wind board for me, also I always used weed fin because the 2 main areas where are sail got lot of weeds.
I may try one of days the board on Hardies run with the 5.8 and 25 fin. I noticed the board does not like fins under 25. (depend where I suppose)

Hi Sam, Im prob abit heavier at 85kg 178cm tall. On the IS86 I run the straps in the middle posi and mast track pretty much on the recomended marks.
26 fin is prob to small for the IS86 and 6.7 I wouldnt use less than a 30 ulness your sailing at sandy point lol.

Same as you for the straps and mast but was thinking to move the strap at the back on the last one and keep the front at the same pos, to try to free the board and more control over it (g that board feels big in high wind!)
For the fins I have been using anywhere between 25/35 deg and 34/43 deg, using 5.8 and 6.7 RS and depending the water surface.
I have not try the board on the run yet and the max fin there is 25/40 to 45 deg, anything else is not save
I tried the other days a Lesh_Cham 24/45 deg with 5.8 RS, due to too much weed at SBay...weeds was sticking to the fin caused by the concaves on each side! Beside this it felt just right on the limit (the surface is probably egal to a 26cm)!
But I have to say that C3 profiles works perfect for the 86L but need to be bigger sizes!
Anyway I ll be trying the next few days the iSo on the run and post back here if any better that 33.5.

Hi Vando,
The lake where I sail changes alot depending on wind direction for weed. I do have a 43 cm select Race pro weed fin. I might try that next time then the weed is not so thick on my 122 IS. I used it once before but the weed was catching on the fin.
I have found the 45% Select weed elminator fin being the best so far in this lake.The guy I sail with has tried a Maui weedburner in the lake and it was picking up weed. I wish some one could make a weed fin that was ajustable so you could change the angle while you were out on the water.
Vando where do you mainly set your mast on the mast track on your 122 IS ?

My best speed on the iS145 is 52kmph (48kmph/500m) with 7.0 and 43 select fin.

Big kit can go fast. been pushing my SX XL. Still have not found it's top end

That's just over 28 Knots. That's really moving for a big board!!! How strong was the wind when you recorded the 28 knots & was the water dead flat?

28 knots are not height speed, in good hands and in better conditions this board can go with better speed.
My sailing place (lake in Europe) not looks like speed spot. My main sail 9m2. 7m2 I use only ~5 times per year. In end of season I find some points of adjustment, believe it makes board faster.
