Finally a year long project is finish!
Kite Beach in Bali is now probably one of the best beaches in Asia to practice Kitesurfing.
Thanks to the investment of the Japanese government the beach is been extended and is now a whopping 300 meters long by 150 meters wide........

Hi All.

I'm curious if much / any kiting goes on at Nusa Dua.

I'm likely to be staying at or near Uluwatu in June/July and not too keen on battling traffic to get to Sanur.

What about rentals. Whereabout? Cost? Quality? I'm a little reluctant to travel with my kite gear as I'll already have two surf boards etc.

If you have an experience it would be great to hear from you.

Cheers
Dane

I've allways thought ,the pumping of sand, building of rock groins ,and the general f*******ing arround with the enviroment is a bad idea .. Having said that, what can I do about it ???? I hope it goes well ,but doesn't impact too much on mother nature .. I will also be coming to Bali in July , so I should drop in and see for myself ... Good luck ...

Hello guys,
all is good in Bali thank you.
We had so far one of the windiest monsoon season in history and we hope that the summer will follow.
We can't compare our wind with what you get in Australia but with a big kite is still quite fun! Between June and August you get to hit the water at least a 50% of days with wind around 12-14 knots...
Toad you are right! But all started over 11 years ago when they build the mess that is today Turtle Island.. It changed all the currents and suddenly the beach in Sanur progressively disappear.
I doesn't look natural or pretty but is better then no beach at all!!!

The same project also moved in Tuban and Kuta! They pump sand from the Airport to the Hard Rock cafe'.
Nusa Dua get the same wind as Sanur! The lagoon is not that big and the wind is straight on shore. There is a group of kiters also there and a French guy, Bernard, that teach kiting. I think he is going to have also rental this summer.
Here is his web site: http://balikitesurf.com/

About the same as always....
AU$ is not doing very well but also Indonesian Rupiah devaluet about 30%.
You can find accomodations from about 15 AU$ for homestay, 30 to 50 AU$ for a decent hotel and then to thousand of dollars for super luxury.
A good meal in a local restaurant is about 15 AU$. If you eat Indonesian food you can have a meal for 4 AU$. A meal at McDonald is about 6 AU$. Beer in a bar is 2 AU$.
Rent a motorbike for 1 day cost 5 AUS$. Sigarette 1,2 AU$.
I think is still quite affordable.

Hello there,
Kuta - Sanur is 13 kilometers.
And it really depend where you stay! in Kuta the traffic is pretty bad! Once you are on the by pass (the local highway!) is quite fast.
Let's say that if you go with a motorbike 15 minutes, if you go with a car about 25 minutes.

Hello there,
sorry but not much information's on Lombok...
I have been there few times but never in the windy time.
I only have report from tourist:
Only good area is in the south near Kuta Lombok.
Wind about the same as Bali (maybe couple of knots more!).
Plenty of places to explore!!! So far no report of incredible kite spot.
Senggigi no good... Gili Island good after August when wind shift more from South.
Last year they told me was very good in October there!!
If I have time this year I will go for some exploration.

Hi Jankie

Thanks for all the info above. I have been reading your website, you have an intersting story.
What sort of wind levels do you expect towards the end of march in Sanur?
I am thinking of coming over for a short break.

Also is Sanur heavily developed / touristified? I have never been to Bali before. I would like to go somewhere that I can kite but also still feels quite local.

Cheers
Huey

In regards to Lombok, I had a little go on the north coast and it was about 10-12 knots in the morning and died off after a couple of hours. The east coast seemed to have more wind but they always blew onshore and were no good for getting into the waves there. Around mid-morning it would die off and at lunch go offshore but didn't blow strong enough to kite in but made for some awesome surfing.

End of March-April no wind at all.....
Bali is heavily developed specially in the Kuta/Seminyak area but Sanur didn't change much in the last 10 years.
Sanur is pretty laid back and I love it! it still feels like Bali...

Is one of the few places in Bali where you can still do what you like without been in the mess of traffic or getting harassed at every step.

Plenty of restaurants and shops for your leisure and also few bars with live music where to hang around at night.

The real night life is in Kuta/Seminyak so is really depend what are your priorities.
In the evening there is not much traffic to move around so to get to Kuta it takes only 15 minutes.
