I was kiteboarding at Wanda beach this afternoon, and had a great session.
Powered up on my 9sqm!
I came out the water and saw someone rigging up his kite and walked over and asked him if he could catch my kite and he just flatly Ignored me twice.
Thanks to the windsurfer that brought my kite down.
I then brought down someone elses kite and his lines went across the first guys lines and the guy got clearly annoyed and told the other guy to move quickly as he wanted to launch his kite.
I think its selfish and bordering on arrogance, is this guy too good to help anyone else? It would have only taken a minute out of his session.

I think there is a moral to this story... Windsurfers are good people kiters are not...

Morally ambiguous comment there WindySimon. Generalising that one group is good yet the other is not.

I think there're idiots in any sport. So just forget about it.

I must say most kiters I come across are great. Nice people who are always up for chat and swopping stories and many take the time to give you a tip or two when seeing you are still learning. I really love being part of this!

This bloke obviously hasn't lost his board 2km out to sea yet. When he does stack out there, and you drop his board downwind while he sorts the kite out, you can bet he will start helping others with little things like landing!

There are only two types of kiters, those who have appreciated a big favor by someone, and those who are about to.

I hear ya, but there is a flip side to this argument. Self launching and landing are skills that everyone should learn and practice. There won't always be someone there to help you and let's face it...on the water, everyone's their own captain.

Now many launch sites simply require assisted launches and landings. Usually because of crowds, rocks, obstacles etc. But when you're at a beach that has room for safe self launching and landing...I perfer not to bug other people for their help.

One thing, if you do ask someone to catch your kite, it's nice to jog right up and take it from them. Don't exect them to secure it for you.

I've had people ignore me when I've asked them to land my kite, then 5 minutes later the same person has asked me for a launch. Mental.

Hopefully one day they'll drop their kite in front of the "Dumping Wave of Destiny" and I'll be sitting on the beach with a beer in my hand trying not to laugh.

I hope this generalisation is tongue-in-cheek. It seems, for reasons I don't understand, that there is a lot of agro between windsurfers and kiters in WA. It doesn't exist on the east coast. Can you please explain why windsurfers in WA, and you in particular, detest kiters so much?
