could u put the lines into one of those lil zip-up mesh bags that chicks put their bra's n stuff in? then u throw the bag into the washing machine, and it takes the pounding, but not whats inside. my GF uses one and all her sexy stuff isnt damaged, and i am sure kite lines are alot tuffer than some lacy bra or skimpy G

oh and yeah, white king wouldnt be the best of things to use i'd imagine.

just my 2 cents,

Sheppo..

Dear Clifford.

Don't listen to them... go with the bleach. I've put together some other handy tips for you. Handy-Andy is really good for bigger kites that wont fit into the washing machine, where Omo (for colours) in warm water gives the best results. Mr Sheen does wonders for the shiny bits on harnesses, whilst Kitten Wax really brings out the gloss on board after a hard day at the beach. For those days when the wind just wont blow I recommend Prozac, when it is blowing and you're stuck at work Valium will help ease the frustration.

Yours truly,
Martha Gardner.

Best thread ever.

Can you imagine how tangled your lines would be if you put them in the washing machine? Even in one of those girlie bags.

Napisan, - a good soaking for about a week might make sure all the grimes goes outta the lines..

also would sterilise them from the river goo if you need to chew out any knots

makes whites whiter - brights brighter

might try it on the kite as well, nothing like a bright shiny kite to blind all those going past you.....

As long as you don't mind the noise, leaving the lines on the bar saves the tangles in the washing machine and the drier

Use the drier coz the first time I washed my lines I ran outta ***** pegs hang'n 108 metres of spectra on the **** clothes line

Pass the bong

No No , Climb into the drier and hold the bar firmly in your hands, or practice multiple handle passes while going round

so you spend all season marinating your lines in salty toilet water, only to remove all the flavour in napi-san? Are you mad?

i suggest you boil them like spaggetti.

If you put them in the washing machine, careful not to put them in with red clothes as it may turn your lines a light shade of pink and then evreyone will think your gay when you next go to the beach.

Hey cliffy,

Was reading these posts from all these guys and girls dissin ya and was wondering why the air smelled fowl, guess they were talking outta the wrong hole.. Did some checkin round the net and here's just one of many articles that say bleach is not gonna hurt your spectra... (if you in fact have spectra lines?)

Clorox is absolutely safe on all other sail fibers including polyester (Dacron), Spectra/Dyneema, Pentex, carbon, and Vectran. In soak tests using full-strength Clorox over several weeks, we have found no measurable effect on the strength or appearance of the materials. It does not affect the film or the adhesive used in laminates. This is supported by all published manufacturers’ data.

Oh and by the way Clorox is just a brand name for a bleach avail in the USA... Hey but don't take my word for it.. Do a Google

And incase you were wondering.. I couldn't be bothered cleaning my lines unless they go faster

Where is the wind???

thanks for that, i already knew that it doesnt weaken them, the think i was worrying about is the increased friction after, i acctually though it would be commen for kites to clean or bleach their lines as they are all so bright.
that make 2 non stupid posts in a row, lets see what happens next

Hi,

My lines are color coded. Can I use napisan ultra to make the whites whiter and the brights brighter. I believe this would really help to pull chicks.

please reply asap.

G'day cliffor123
Bleach would not weaken the lines. I remember reading about tests where they put Spectra/Dyneema in full strength Nitric Acid for nearly 2 years, and it only lost 1 or 2% of its strength. It is also basically unaffected by UV light. Thoat does not mean other parts of your bar are unaffected by acids, bleach or UV, like the nylon trim strap, etc.
The only downside to Spectra and Dyneema (both are gel spun polyethylene, which a plastic related to the type plastic used in the thing that holds a six pack of cans together)is that it has a low melting temp, of around 300C, so friction with any other line, especially polyester lines like in kids toy kites, will cut your lines like a hot knife through butter.
I once had my lines cut while buggying by a kids kite I did not see, the kids kite would have been worth about $5, and it sliced through all 4 of my lines in an instant, I hardly felt it, just noticed I had no kite on the end of my lines anymore!!!!

You're not an idiot, IMO, just new, keen and looking for things to do that are kite related when you cannot kite, correct?

The yellowish discolouration of white lines is nothing to worry about. Its usually caused by yellowish water, muddy beaches, etc.

Keeping the lines clean of sand and grit is more important and rinsing the bar and lines in fresh water is all that is needed, dry and keep out of direct sunlight.

Cya and

Goodwinds

Steve McCormack

While we are on the subject of cleaning kite gear.
My board has heaps of small barnacles stuck to the bottom, and I was wondering if a good quality paint stripper, a scrapper and a heat gun would get them off.

Please reply ASAP as I am fed up with small fish following me.
