Hi Dylan,
Really looking forward to posting some results, just standing by on a board repair and some wind! I was also wondering if it possible to include the speed along with distance travelled and time?

The event preview is a teaser only 😎. Speed will appear on the results page when the event kicks off. Use the preview to see what's working so far and plan your strategy.

Loving it allready. I think it has already improved my sailing trying to get a practice slalom run. Stacked a big gybe, I'll get it next time!
For gybes to register do they have to be an alpha, like within 50m gate or can be wider for this competition?

They can be wider. If you take a look at Simon's track in the event preview, that's a pretty good example of a fast downwind run.

Quick How-to video:

OK. I've got the colours I want ,how do I get an image of it to post to the Gpstc?

I would suggest change to "Compact View" mode and take a screenshot (prtscrn button on a windows PC) then just paste it into the post.

Compact View is a layout that was specifically designed to be nice to screenshot.

If anyone is using GPS tracking for Parawing, a new track type with base measures has been added to ka72.com to support it. Thanks to Jayden for the suggestion.

Reach out if you need any help changing track types on old tracks.

Preview page is up at ka72.com/compete/competitions/8 . During the preview period, eligible tracks will appear in a preview leaderboard. Practice your Virtual Slalom and see how you are stacking up before the event kicks off.

You can now set your own colour preferences for track segment highlights on overlays in ka72.com (just in case you are bored with the colour scheme that we've had the last 15+ years, or have vision issues that mean it is hard to pick out the default colours.)

The full picker appears in your Profile screen (you may need to hit F5 to refresh your browser if it doesn't appear.)

The colour change will affect every future track you upload. (Though you can update past ones too. See below.)

You can also access this setting from the new shortcut button just under the track overlay, where there is also a button to regenerate the kml overlay after you've changed your colour settings.

Thanks to Sue Linton for prompting me to do this. It's something I've been planning to do for about ten years but never got around to.

We're launching a new monthly competition for September 2026, a Virtual Slalom.

See the banner on the ka72.com homepage.

Open to windsurfers, foilers and wingdingers, pit yourself against the world to determine who can really go the fastest nautical mile with a twist!

Link is on the homepage. This is a new division for us, so we expect a few hiccups. I've also had to finally get around to porting over the event entry stuff from the old site to the new one, so please please let me know if you have any issues with joining the event!

Thanks very much to Peter Hirst for suggesting this style of competition. It will go onto our regular calendar of events along with Fast Feb and the November Hour of Power.

All entries go to helping support more and better things for the site. Very much appreciated! We don't host ads, and we don't send you junk mail, so these events are what keeps the site humming.

I'll mull over whether there is a good way to make it work.

Give me a while to consider it.

The site is so easy to use on the mobile phone now. It's great. 👍

One idea (and that could be totally impossible to do) would be to have the replay like there is now but with the option to add another user who sailed at the same time, to compare tracks on the same map.
Would be awesome for slalom or course racing (like our iqfoil club races).

You must have read my mind

Pro users on ka72.com can now access a full session replay with up to 8 selected sailors from the same location on the same date. If you don't see it already, refresh your browser (Ctrl-F5) on the Replay page.

I've spent the last few days looking at crazy tracks on ka72 and refining the data filters. (Along the way I discovered an anonymous user from Hong Kong who uploaded the identical same track around 20 times somehow expecting a different result when his/her/their cheap gps didn't store it's data in m/s but instead km/h.)

I'm pleased to report that the site is now more robust to ****ty data from cheap GPS devices, and the more observant amongst you may have already noticed that it now visibly complains when you try to upload a gpx file from Garmin Connect when the fit file is a much better source of data.

If you have the time and the inclination, feel free to use the "Report a track issue" link that appears on every single track details page on the site to let me know about ****ty results. I'm on a ****ty result hunt this weekend, and the more I stomp the better.

Also a reminder that there is actually a Moderator role on the site that grants access to Pro tools in exchange for your own efforts in tracking down ****ty data. If you are interested in becoming Ka72 moderator, let me know by email at [email protected] and I'll introduce you to the world of **** wrangling.

I'm actually happy as a pig in **** to be working on this. I've been busy with other stuff the last few weeks and the break to focus on data quality on the site is actually more refreshing that it sounds. (Or smells?)

Dylan.

So, after taking a nice break in WA, visiting some of the spots that people post from, and some of the local talent, I'm back home and back at work on the new version of the site.

New this week at new.ka72.com :
* Ported in My Tracks
* Ported in Groups (can't join them yet, but you can view them. Definitely first draft)
* Added a track replay function that lets you visualise your sail
* Fixed a number of bugs I spotted
* Made a number of changes various people suggested (keep 'em coming!)
* Improved the whole track notes/discussion area
* Made two fixes to the calculation engine for reported bad track results
* Changed the navigation structure to make it more intuitive

Thanks to everyone who's given me feedback on this project. It continues!
