Yesterday was my first day on the LTX 2.4m, did a 4 hour session, here's the wind gauge:
Note, this wind gauge tends to read low. There was little spray tornados flying across the river at times.

Here's the tracks from the first part of the session:

I then switched for a short go on the Pocket Rocket v1 1.9m (it did not go well).

Here's the second part of the session back on the 2.4m LTX.

After ONE session on the 3.1 (17-31 knots on the gauge) and ONE session on the 2.4 I wouldn't call it the top choice if all you want to do is DW/UW. However, after just those first sessions it's changed the way I view the parawing. This is the most user friendly sail I've had. Awesome for rapid stow/redeploy, sufficient for upwinding short distances, ideal if you are comfortable with more frequent interactions with your parawing. Biggest benefit has to be the comfort in a huge wind range without paying the hybrid/double skin penalty. Comes with the added bonus that this will be the baby step towards teaching people about double skin tech with almost zero pain in the learning process.

I never flew the Power Pack but I've been thinking this might be described as a power pack killer by someone like yourself.

thx for the report Brian 🤙🏽

If I were to venture a guess... I think that people who have put the time in to learn double skins and 50/50 hybrids will develop a specific style of riding that will make single skins and 1/4 hybrids like this less exciting. Especially in the large sizes that he rides.

And just wang performance & handling in Hood conditions and current assist vs ocean swell with light holey wind.
Am watching all these developments in wind range closely tho, cos A. I cant afford a quiver of latest model wangs, and B. 7 metre wangs are just not in my wheelhouse 😜

just picked up crispy new 3.6m v1 Pocket Rocket. Any tips pumping onto foil, coming from a low aspect stump puller?

It will pump across the window quite well and you can head at the wing slightly more than you think and this will make it drop back and then spike forward when it repowers back up. If you can grab a pump just as it fully spikes from deep in the window you can get up in very light circumstances.

quite the Yoda-level wang advice there, thanks mate!
Lets know of any vid out there showing how the PRv1 moves around the window 👍🏼

Brian,

I like them both, though I wish the Quest had the Ozone lines. I think the quests have the edge on range but only just, and a slightly better low end, but again not by much. I think the ozone are a touch more stable. I love the f one bar. The ozone are faster and turning is about the same. I also cant stop feeling that for my conditions I sold my power packs too soon.

But always looking for a new toy, if its an improvement. If I can get to a 3 PW quiver, where theres a big range overlap, good lines/stashing and upwind that eould be great.

Mike

Good rundown and comparison Mike. I kind of wonder if the LTX will be what you are looking for, especially if you liked the power packs. I should get a big day on those tomorrow and will have more info afterwards.

Just ordered the 3.5m Orbit with the Parasack. Won't see it until the end of August tho, so anyone chomping at the bit for info from me wont hear much until September I expect.

in the meantime just wack a clamcleat on the Z line of yr Paia 😁

Put in big day yesty with XS 141W in big ocean bumps, both with flagged wing and stashed para and had an absolute ball, that tail really settles the v1 SK8 down dropping into bombs, but with superb flow linking turns.

Switched back to XXXS 180 later in sesh and ate **** twice at mach speed, will only be using that super short stab for smaller tow and prone til my skills are up to that fast twitch in the big stuff.

So the XS 141W on the SK8 has made getting on foil much smoother, AND big confidence boost in carving big bumps, stoked!

I kinda feel like the Carver gets more push from swell with the chopped tail and then an aggressive pump pops it up. Pilot Mid is better at generating board speed and gliding up onto foil. I prefer the Pilot Mid for that reason.

more a function of the 6 inches extra length than the tail angle yeah?
hoping to try a 6’0 85L Coaster against my 5’10” 85L Carver soon, see how much the evolved bottom shape helps with takeoff

finally got my hands on XS 141 W stab, and DAMN it makes the Sk8 so much more enjoyable!
That longer fuse really improves that sk8 tendency to just DROP when pumping up, but still super carvy and flowy thru turns.
reckon F-one doing lot of customers disservice selling the SK8s with XXS fuse as stock, I’ve expended so much extra energy & patience learning and dealing with that drop tendency and pitch sensitivity, ESPECIALLY with the parawing.
Give the XS 141W a try and let me know what you think 🤙🏽

No issues for me on the pilot either. Typically on 3m or smaller tho. If you got jump rope lines line the PRv2 3.6 you can hook the nose in flight. This happens on my 5’11” too.

Litreage aside, when switching btwn Carver and Pilot Mid, do you notice the difference the beveled tail makes in getting on foil? do you need to adjust your pump cadence/amplitude btwn the diff bottom shapes?

any new season feedback on yr 6’5 Pilot Mid B?

I love it so much! Best board I've ever owned. Happy to answer any questions about it. I did a youtube clip talking about my parawing board progression and talked about the Pilot a good bit in that one:

My buddy got his multicolored custom and has lost his mind with how easy it is to ride. He's learning to parawing crazy fast on it. For me it's essentially perfect other than needing the box moved forward a few inches to meet the needs of the masses!

that extra length isnt a hassle with parawing lines?

It isn’t long enough to catch the lines, and gets going easily in light winds. Pretty much the only board I use now only changing to the 95lts DW board as a novelty in sub 15knot condition..

thanks for the feedback mate! What wang you using with it mostly?

The 4.5m would make an epic ocean upwind/downwind machine if lives up to Sam’s hype on MattonFoil podcast.

with a 2.7 stashed in belt, covered for 14 to 40 knots

I experiences the same using an F-One Quest bar (the small one has the same distance between A's and brake lines as on the D-bar).
I use the F-One Quest harness line now which is much easier to hook in without having to look. Works great IF you attach it the same way the BRM mono line is attached. If you attach it just after the junction with the D part you are out of balance.
The D-bar is ergonimic but for me it is a pain taxiing, collapsing and redeploying. Even after 10 sessions on the 5,3 now.
I will try the S3 with a "T" bar to have the best of both world

Lengthened brakelines lines 25mm per recco, but still getting punished with the 5m Smik here atm, 20-25 knots and 3m+ groundswell

any line/bar tweaks for improving control when getting up super lit in the rough stuff, per pics posted above?

I have the 4.2m wing and played around a bit with the Z line length (the yellow lines, brake lines). If I remember correctly I think about 25mm longer Z line length was the sweet spot (I just used some dyneema with knots to make changes on the go one session, till I found the setting I liked best). Didn't notice a difference to lowend, topend was certainly more comfortable.

I'm also keen to try adding a Bowline’ riser sometime, the line attachment in the middle of the bar is a bit irritating.

thanks mate!
Will try yr brakeline extension - have def been fighting tendency to oversheet with Scotty’s factory line/bar setup.

Thought about going full retard and sticking a shovel handle on the Smik??

I got quite a few questions on this board right away. Normally I like to wait until I have about 500 miles on a piece of gear to do a write up but the season is shutting down here so I have started and published my initial writeup before it's complete. Hopefully this can answer a few questions. I'd say my initial evaluation is all positive.

Feel free to drop any questions on the article or here and I'll do my best to answer them.

Initial thoughts and evaluation on parawinging the 6'5"x19"x68l Sunova Pilot Mid:
www.wouzel.com/post/parawinging-the-sunova-pilot-mid

any new season feedback on yr 6’5 Pilot Mid B?

It’s probably unavailable due to being a 2025 model. I did give some feedback to Sunova on this great board for parawing, their reply was that they have something similar coming for parawing, hopefully they just added a deck pad.
I’m 82kgs on the 6’5 68ltr model.

👍
Seems don’t be afraid of that 19” beam is the message!

I’m a wax guy. So the no deck grip’s a godsend

Primo wang, wing, tow, prone, SUP (and foildrive if yr a lazy prick) shape. Hella swiss army board this thing. All for fifteen hunge Aussie on sale.

Wonder what tweaks JC and Ben have in store for the update? Hefty price rise fo sure

5m Smik my only wing atm, and looking for input on bar/line tweaks to extend its wind range.
Pretty generic straight bar & line setup, per att pics, hoping to try things out that work on similar wangs. few possibilities listed below, appreciate any feedback on what is worth trying

Quest-style angled bar extension in front of A/B line att point for more comfort lit?
Longer bar for extra leverage at bottom and top of range?
Bowline’ riser to get mid lines off bar?
Move mid line frwd/ back from existing mid-bar attachment point?
Split A and B line attachment point?

thanks 👍🏽
