Planning one more Greece trip this season and torn between Kos and Rhodes for a week of wind-driven sailing and some light freediving. Kos sounds ideal for the flat-water spots on the north side, but Rhodes seems to have more variety if the Meltemi takes a break.
Logistics question: on Kos I'd rent a car to chase the wind between spots — kos-car-rental.com at the airport looks reasonable, has anyone used them or know if one-way drop at Kardamena is possible? Any input appreciated, especially on which island handles late-September wind better.

Planning a week on Paros in late September and sorting the hire car. Found car-hire-paros.com - a local agency with pickup at Parikia port. Anyone used them or can recommend another outfit that does port pickup and no credit-card deposit?
Also keen to hear if the Pounda-Antiparos crossing is easy with a car late September.

Quick follow-up on this - sorted the hire car for the Naxos leg today. Went with a local outfit rather than the airport aggregators: car-hire-naxos.com - pickup in Naxos town, no credit card deposit drama and they were fine with an early morning drop-off which is what I need for the Pounda ferry run.
Will report back on Mikri Vigla vs Pounda conditions when I'm back. If anyone else is flying in mid-September I'll know by then whether the Meltemi is still holding.

G'day all,

Flying to Greece in mid-September for a week and bringing the gear. Narrowed it down to Naxos (Mikri Vigla) or Paros (Pounda / Santa Maria) - will have a hire car, so island hopping for the windiest afternoon is on the table too.

Anyone been that time of year? Main questions:
1. Is the Meltemi still reliable in the second half of September, or does it get patchy?
2. Mikri Vigla vs Pounda for an intermediate who likes flat water with the odd chop section?
3. Any spots worth driving to on those two that are quieter but still work in a northerly?

Rigging a 5.2 and a 68L freewave, 85kg. Would rather sail in the arvo and drive in the morning, so spots within an hour of each other are ideal.

Cheers
