Another nice day, a bit gusty but nothing to complain about - nice on the 4.2m. Wind direction was SSW.

Some nice little ramps on the inside; even with the outgoing tide, there wasn't much current at all. The outer bank had big holes in the wind making it a bit unsafe; outgoing-tide making it a bit of a washing machine on the outer bank.

Went around the old lighthouse, there is a solid wave just to the south - to get to it requires sailing through the outgoing current, so it isn't for the faint of heart. Which also means, dont fall on that wave...

Then the wind came in SE... time for some speed runs. The edge of the bank has changed a bit since a few months ago, no longer straight... but still good enough for 36kn.

As one can see from the track, the satellite photos are quite old...

All batteries - lithium included - will have some self-discharge. This is an artefact of chemistry and of construction. We do see come batteries marketed as "long life" - their self-discharge will be small, lasting 10yrs or more. All rechargable batteries are considered to be *not* long life - lithium cells are quoted asa 1% per month / 10% per year. Importantly, if a lithium discharges below a certain threshold - 2v per cell - then they are considered to be unsafe to be recharged.

Thus a typical suggestion is to charge them at least once per year or two.

Some manufactures stipulate more often - for example, DJI drone batteries have a self-regulation mechanism which discharges sooner, so need to be charged about once per 6 months.

Note - new gadgets dont often come with full-charge in their batteries. This is primarily for safety reasons, because charged battery can let out the magic if it gets bumped a bit hard. And during the manufacture of the battery it wont get charged up completely, and the manufacturer of the gadget also wont charge the battery. So you will want to do it sooner, rather than later.

Bluey's photography got out the drone on the same day (just a bit earlier).

The answer of gusty holey conditions is to foil

A very small movement of feet or change in mast-foot pressure, does require a change to pitch/roll/yaw/height. ( This is a result of physics and nothing to do with opinion. )

Are you suggesting as a way to improve technique - as it certainly wont be less-sensitive to gusts than on a fin ?

A few days later another good session. Good wind and waves - 4.2m and freewave. Great jumping waves this day.

Sunday 4th July ... Bribie Bar is working well.

Tide wasn't too low leaving enough water across the bar. Very smooth on the dead-north edge of Bribie Island, which then leads to some nice ramps.

Once the tide changed, the waves on the outer-ledge were holding a nice bottom turn (but only a single turn).

That RADIX system, looks quite good - it could do with being taller. Looks like if the fin/foil hit something solid, then the load would be transferred directly to the skin so probably causing damage.

For a long time I have wanted a tandem-slalom board ... windsurfing is usually a solo sport, but having used the giant-tandem it brings a different type of fun. Having tried a slalom-tandem built by Peter Nitschke, it is something that I have wanted to own. In both boards the fin felt like it was in the wrong place.... ie: knowing where to mount the finbox in a board that can handle two sailors, is an unknown quantity. I have had a few discussions with various people about an adjustable Tuttle -> indeed Anthony Perkins did a good attempt.

Each of the common finbox types, have pro's and con's. This design may be a suitable alternative to Tuttle, for high-load and adjustability -> it looks like it would be possible to have some front/back shims which then use the same t-nut technique.

Good discussion, particularly relevant to anyone whom has sailed at Lake George. Would have been nice to name the various people who have set the record over the years.

If you have used a GPS / watch to track your distance, 40km distance in an hour is achievable (provided there is good wind obviously). But it not easy ie: more than 22kn average for the whole hour. Given that gybing typically drops you below 15kn for a bit of time, your board speed is going to need to be at least 24kn on the runs.

... which means "fast gear" is preferred, at the expense of ease-of-use.

Now do that for 10hrs ... say 8am - 5pm... definitely a physical challenge, but the mental challenge comes into it. That would get you less than half way to the 24hr-record.

The wind-meter at South Channel, typically gave a good representation of the wind at Rye front beach. Except in a Northerly in summer, where the wind often didn't make it to the waters-edge.
